Mejia is being accused of first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
A prosecutor on Wednesday said that the quarrel between both men started when Mattison, of Glendale Heights, was trying to back his pickup truck into his driveway. Mejia pulled up in a white Ford sedan and went around Mattison instead of letting him finish pulling in, the prosecutor added.
Mattison then chased Mejia, overlapped his car and pulled in front of him, causing Mejia to break off on Bartlett Road near Oltendorf Road. Dashcam footage then caught the moment when Mattison gets out of his truck before approaching Mejia's sedan. A brief verbal altercation occurred, according to the prosecutor, and after words were exchanged, Mattison reached inside the vehicle and struck Mejia in the face.
Law enforcement said Mattison was then shot several times near his liver, his spleen and on the chest, by a 9 mm handgun. In the video, he is seen taking a couple of steps backs on the road.

sure sounds like the dead guy was the aggressor in this case which makes it Self Defense
It sure sounds like self defense, but in Illinois, they will try to crucify anyone who uses a gun unless they are a leftist or shoot a cop.
The fact that the man had kids is irrelevant and meant to bias the reader.
Thank you for your response
I’ve also learned some Russian profanity (those were the first crash videos I started watching).
The funny thing about the “Karen Cams” is that the “bad guy in a lot of those could easily have been ME.
I’m not an agressive driver, but I’m an assertive driver. It means that if I’m the second car back at a left turn “flashing arrow” and the guy in front of me is waiting for a car hundreds of yards in front of us, I just make the turn from behind him and leave him waiting. I’ve probably done that 20 times or more in my commuting days. I keep expecting to see myself in one of those videos. 🤣
I live in Illinois and I carry, as do many others.
The area around Chicago may be a little different. I’m about 90 miles from there.
If I’m traveling to Chicago to visit my daughter I don’t carry- I know I should, but should something happen (traffic incident, most likely) I don’t want a gun on me if the cops come callin. I’m a stranger in a strange land, and if someone is gonna cut me off in traffic around there, I’m gonna let them.
Years ago when she had her first apartment shared with another student, we had to drive thru Cicero to get there. That was before we had CCL in Illinois. I wish I could’ve been carrying back then. That was white knuckle driving at its finest😮
...and liver...and spleen
I used to be “assertive” 😎. But, when I got my concealed carry license...my driving improved 100%.
‘According to the headline, the guy was already dead.’
I knew someone would post that before I did...
“Because Mejia is under 21 and without a conceal carry license, he shouldn’t have had the gun.”
Depends on the state. Your probably right in IL, but in many states he was legal in his own car.
Seems pretty straight forward self defense to me. Still reserving the right to change my opinion based on more accurate information.
What am I missing here? I would have shot him in a heart beat.

That is wrong. What if the maniac chasing you all over town and storming up to your car has a gun himself? As soon as he sees your gun, you are dead.
You keep your weapon concealed until you feel your life is threatened. Then you reveal it and use it.
Looked to me like we could see both of his hands.
He was chased down and assaulted.
At that point you have the right to defend yourself.
Actually, it’s journalism that’s dead.

I vote not gulity. I would have shot him myself in that situation.
Rushing into a vehicle’s maneuvering zone and going around is what New Yorkers do 24/7/365. No one would give it a second thought here.

The worst examples of that tactic I’ve ever seen were in Toronto.
