Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton could be headed for a runoff, early returns show

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton could be headed for a primary runoff, with nearly half the votes counted late Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ.

In a field of four candidates, not enough Texas Republican primary voters appear convinced that the two-term incumbent should remain the Republican’s candidate for the job. That could put the embattled attorney general on the defensive in the biggest fight of his political life.

Candidates Eva Guzman, a former Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Land Commissioner George P. Bush are neck and neck in their own fight to determine who will come out in second place. U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert of Tyler trails behind in fourth. Candidates must receive more than 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff election.

I guess being a regular guest on Sean Hannity doesn't help in statewide primaries. I hope he sticks around in Congress.

Louie shouldn’t have ran. He’s risking Bush winning.

Louie got in too late, not enough state-wide name recognition. A GREAT congressman who gave up a sure seat for an obvious losing long-shot bid. All I can guess is that he might have wanted to retire without retiring, or he wanted a state-wide run so he can run against Cornyn next time he’s up for election to the Senate. Either way, I wish he would have stayed in Congress as the Republicans are poised to take over the House.

His replacement will be just fine. A solid conservative.

Looks like George Bush will probably make the runoff. He doesn’t seem to have much of a chance but he should have lots of $s.

UGH. I don’t know anyone that supports any Bush anymore and these are people that really liked them at one time.

Does exactly the opposite. People wonder how he has so much time to go give interviews so often.

“… I hope he sticks around in Congress.”

He chose to run in the primary for AG instead of for his Congressional seat. So he’ll be out come January 2023.

Louie was a great US Representative.

I fly a texas flag above my inverted US flag because ken paxton filed a lawsuit against my state (PA) that carried out an unlawful election. If i lived there he would have my vote.

Nope. Louis has bigger balls than Ken Paxton. And, a cleaner history. Paxton's past will come to haunt him in November.

I never saw one ad for Gohmert. Paxton, Guzman and G.P. Bush were on all the time.

I still suspect Guzman ran as a stalking horse for Bush. Paxton ran as the candidate "endorsed by Trump". Bush ran as the candidate who will "finish building Trump's wall". Guzman never allied herself with Trump, and most of Bush's ads were anti-Guzman which criticized her for being soft on immigration and not wanting to build the wall. I kinda think she only ran to be a punching bag for Bush to make him look conservative.
