Russian nuclear submarines sailed off for drills in the Barents Sea and mobile missile launchers roamed snow forests Tuesday in Siberia after President Vladimir Putin ordered his nation’s nuclear forces put on high alert over tensions with the West over the invasion of Ukraine.
Russia’s Northern Fleet said in a statement that several of its nuclear submarines were involved in exercises designed to "train maneuvering in stormy conditions." It said several warships tasked with protecting northwest Russia’s Kola Peninsula, where several naval bases are located, would join the maneuvers.
In the Irkutsk region of eastern Siberia, units of the Strategic Missile Forces dispersed Yars intercontinental ballistic missile launchers in forests to practice secret deployment, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“Andrei, you lost another submarine?”
Reports are that Russian airmen and sailors have written “let’s go Brandon” on the sides of thier missles since bombs. /(I made this up)
We drilled all the time on the sub I was on. Engineering drills, missile drills, torpedo drills, once and a while we had real fires and once a flooding issue. I’m sure Ivan does too.
Putin is going to pull something during the SOTU...
Hope their preventive maintenance is up to date. And their user manuals. Did some chip the rust off that thing?
Probably his pud.
Interesting that at the conclusion of two years of keeping the world in constant fear, that a replacement to keep the world in constant fear has appeared immediately afterward.
Just in time for the 2022 election.
I was wondering what they had planned for the election, now I know.
I wonder if they plan to actually detonate a nuke or just threaten to do so?
Whatever it takes I guess.
And don’t forget to charge the batteries.
Wouldn’t that be ironic…
Pray they don’t bump into one of our subs.
I wonder if Putin’s commanders will go for it.
Do they have plenty of coal for their ships?
Been there done that, a crazy Ivan up our tail pipe in the Straits of Gibraltar.
A few comments here:
1. Russian submarines have killed more Russian submarines than anyone else has. *FACT*
2. Russia has some of the world’s best ice breaking tug boats. Looking at their navy you can understand why.
3. The upside of serving in a Russian nuclear sub is you can sometimes cook a chicken while holding it in your hands.
4. Russian Naval officers are some of the best in the world...at finding the lifeboats.
5. The Russian navy is trying to confuse NATO by using rust colored ships.
6. Russia has the best aircraft carrier in the world! It’s so great it never needs to leave port!
7. Putin has avoided the Russian navy ever since they promised to name their next cruiser the “Putinkin”.
Putin better be careful with nuclear threats. The United States will smoke his ass no matter where he is hiding should he launch one missle. We have the capability!
“Putin is going to pull something during the SOTU...”
That was a TV series called Designated Survivor.
FJB won’t use it.
