Antarctica glacier’s collapse could raise sea levels by 10 feet

It's massive, it's collapsing due to global warming, and when it goes, sea levels are going to rise by a significant amount, perhaps by 10 feet.

"All signs point to (the eventuality that) we're not going to keep this glacier from collapsing," said Villanova University Vice President, Chief Research Officer, and Chemistry Professor Amanda Grannas about the glacier that she said is about the size of Florida.

"Part of the weights actually extends out over the ocean. So part of the ice is floating on top of the ocean water, and part of it's located over land."

Dr. Grannas said ice shelves on the continent help keep the massive weight of such glaciers from flowing into the ocean.

"If our ice shelf...goes away, then that opens the door for that ice that's behind it, that's over the land, to more freely flow out into the ocean. And that means catastrophic sea-level rise if that were to happen."

She said that the Thwaites Glacier serves that purpose, but it has been deteriorating for 20 years, "much more quickly than we had anticipated."

Water displacement.

Science.

It’s a thing. Really.

IF, IF all the ice in the world melted, which it can’t, there would be maybe a rise of maybe a few cm of sea level. Throw some ice cubes in a glass of water and stare at it for a couple of hours.

(Yawn) Thwaites Glacier has geothermal heat from active volcanic action beneath it, causing current melting. Even at that it would take hundreds of years for the whole shebang to melt into the ocean. Nothing to do with climate change. They know all this btw, they just don’t tell you. This is how they lie to propel the false narrative.

Like Covid, the treatment of Climate change is a million times worse than the problem and will cause catastrophic effects for mankind. Of course the Davos elite will prosper and watch the little people die.

"much more quickly than we had anticipated." finely illustrates GIGO. "They" consider their initial assumption as an unrefutable baseline fact, and then base future observations against that same unverifiable "data point."

No way in hell. A few inches, maybe. The entirety of all ice caps would raise levels by only 190 feet. And most of Antarctica’s ice stays safely a hundred degrees below freezing.

It took them 20 years to notice that reality wasn’t following their script.

Once again, during the southern hemisphere’s summer, we are shocked that ice melts when it is warm. The corresponding massive freeze 6 months later goes unreported for some reason...

Then build more dams to hold the rain water so it doesn’t flow back into the oceans!

Dear genius Dr. Grannas, Please explain to us morons how a glacier which resides over land “collapses” into the ocean. Thanks in advance.

I don’t believe there is enough ice on the planet to raise the oceans by ten feet, upon melting. But what do I know.
~~~~
There are lots of mesas in the American Southwest. They were formed millions of years ago when when there was no south pole continent. They were islands in the ocean. So yes, there is enough ice currently above sea level to melt and cause havoc. 90 percent of it resides on the continent of Antarctica, and there is no indication that it is melting. The same is true of Greenland. Only one percent of continental ice resides in glaciers outside of Antarctica and Greenland. There is no reason to believe that this one percent is melting any faster than would be expected 10,000 years into a 20,000 year interglacial. If you look closely, most global warming “scientists” like this one preface their scurrilous predictions with “IF”.
