Ho hum... I saw this bull💩 last month... Call me when liberals starts to sell their Private jets, yachts and oceanfront mansions...
According to Isaac Asimov, polymath (and liberal):
If the 23 million cubic kilometers of ice in the world melted at the same time, the volume of the oceans would only increase 1.7%. This would be enough to raise the sea level by 180 ft.
The Empire State Building would be in water to nearly the 20th floor.
My Alma Mater is on the AGW bandwagon. Too bad.
Antartica is always cold so AGW doesn’t apply. Maybe volcanic action will move glaciers and some of the on land ice will move on the ocean and 10 feet is possible as if the ice all melted, which is impossible the ocean levels would rise 230 feet.
Bu that isn’t happening.
So 10 feet could happen but maybe not.
Amanda is guessing. Hers is as good as mine.
Visit the site of the battle on Google Earth and you'll be surprised at just how far inland it is.
That glacier must have a area of thousands of square miles and be ten feet thick in order to do that. Show me where I’m wrong.
“Perhaps” is the key word here. Lots of wiggle room in that one word.
Between your screws and my duct tape, we can do this!
Liberal coastal cities hit the worst.
“Simple physics: If it is already on the water, its already influencing sea levels It doesn’t matter at that point if it melts. You have to melt the land ice to raise sea level.”
Yep, fourth grade stuff. It is already displacing it’s own weight. It’s volume has already expanded around 9% at 4-0 degrees Celsius and this will contract back that 9% volume when it melts. It will have no more displacement impact than all loaded vessels on the sea which have still not raised the level. Aside from the fact that if it is anywhere close to being big enough to cool a body of water, the cooling will contract way more water in volume than this chunk of ice could displace. The impact will be zero considering all factors.
Their concept is “Fuzzy Science”. lol
Chemistry Professor Amanda Grannas has a big heart for the earth and humanity
Wha?
Will do, but all you need to do is watch Obama. His mansion in Martha's Vineyard that is only 7' above sea level. When he bails out, then do something about it.
“We’re not going to keep this glacier from collapsing”
Uh, why would you think you could, lady? Do you propose scaffolding, or a billion dollar retaining wall?
What’s next, they complain they can’t change the path of a (climate change- induced!) tornado?
Somebody needs to ask these Clowns, how far down hill do they expect a “glacier” to move?
Basic Physics:
WATER EXPANDS WHEN IT FREEZES.
ICE CONTRACTS WHEN IT MELTS.
With serious focus, other factors such as displacement, currents, composition, depth, voids, blocks (ridges), contraction, surface-subsurface subduction and related mass geometry, other tested covariates, careful not to overparametrize, such considerations over time point to an intractable predictive model that surely interprets however one wishes.
No doubt Thwaites is observed to be transforming, it’s ice shelf barriers receding, but is it predictive? Is the mass accounting loaded with offsets or is it simply a blob of land based water suddenly merged with sea?
No doubt there is fear embedded in this “news”, and why is this fearful news hatched NOW and not in years hence?
The climate will not be changed to thwart a Thwaites. If this is more than fear fiction, levees are the reality of response, not some lame “Great Reset” espoused by a heretical German High Priest surrounded by uneducated, unwise minions of ill-will.
We’ve been hearing throughout the decades since the end of the “inexorably coming ice age” that the sea ice would melt and the oceans would rise by 10 feet. I guess they really, really, really mean it this time.
Let me know when Oidiot moves out of his brand new ocean front mansion. Maybe I’ll read this trash then.
Like I said. What do I know. I really enjoyed the Foundation series when I was younger.
I guess I'm just a dumb disciple of Archimedes and the notion of displacement. Seems to me if it is mostly already floating, then it has already displaced most of the water it is going to displace.
They note the flow/motion of the glacier has been accelerating - almost like there was more ice behind it pushing it to the sea. Hmm... Global warming yet there's more ice?...
They claim the acceleration and grounding line changes have been going on for 20 years. Gosh, in 20 years sea levels have risen all of ... 2 inches (and that's if you believe the people most likely to benefit from such a "finding"). At least part of that possibly true 2 inch rise is from other sources.
So it has already displaced most of what water it is likely to displace, and it has at best made a barely measurable change in sea levels. Sure, if everything down there melted it could do X, Y, or Z. Lots of things could happen all over the world, good and bad. The fear mongers are trying to sell something.
We’ve been waiting for this wall of water to hit for how many decades now....?
