AVIATION PING!....................
I bet parts were hard to come by when it was flying.
Putin has now pissed off the aviation enthusiasts. His camp is getting mighty thin.
Very bad news if a massive transformer or hydroplant part is needed in a hurry.
I’m pissed at the corporate owners of this unique aircraft being stupid enough to park it in Ukraine instead of overseas during this period. Trying to save a few dollars?
That thing rented out for $80,000 an hour for heavy cargo transport.
Would have been an awesome plane to convert to a Moscow carpet bomber.
Iirc there was a partially completed second one they’d hoped to eventually complete.
“I bet parts were hard to come by when it was flying.”
I did see it fly about 8 years ago.
Unbelievabley huge.
It fact the Russian forces in the airport were light infantry without heavy weapons. Ukraine destroyed the plane using artillery to try to chase them out.
That thing would land at the local airport every now and then to pick up wing sections made by spirit aero. when it flew over it looks like it’s going 10mph. tried to get a tour of it but never could.
There’s only two kinds of military aircraft - Fighters and (fill in blank).
I’ve read reports that state it was not “strikes” but the Russian troops in control of Hostomel airfield who set it afire.
It was used to transport the world's largest highway paving rig. The paving rig inside the plane mixed, vibrated out entrapped air, metered, and spread six lanes of highway at about the same rate you walk.
I was in a Citation. It moved so much air on the taxiway it felt like being in a hurricane.
here is a video tour
