Ukraine said on Sunday Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to put Russian nuclear forces on high alert was calculated to put pressure at the start of talks but that Kyiv would not be cowed.

Speaking at a briefing, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also said Russia had dropped its preconditions for talks after suffering military setbacks. Ukraine would listen to what Russia had to say, he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday Russia had agreed to talks at a venue on the Belarusian border near the Pripyat River, the first since Russia invaded its neighbour last week.

What a joke the media has become, it’s embarrassing and disgusting at the same time.

Ukraine will unconditionally surrender, then declare victory over Russian forces. Such is the state of the media in the western world.

Why is Zelensky willing to talk at all? Things haven’t exactly been going well for Putin.

Based on what? The media?

Good point. Perhaps Zelesnky has been deposed, and the Russians have taken Kiev.

How would we now?

re: ‘alamo’ i think a copy of that event, is something putin does not want to happen, and one that zelensky would entertain to further fix the resolve of his people.

i wonder what would happen if the ukrainians flew either the ‘1824’ flag, or, the ‘come and get it’ flag?

Putting his nuclear forces on high alert doesn’t sound like things are going so well for Vlad.

How many here think that if Putin had confined his invasion to the Dobass region and fortified it along the Dneipt (?) river this thing war would’ve gotten so out of hand?

I think the world would’ve been split. The Germans would have condemned it, but went on with business as usual - and certainly Russia wouldn’t have been dropped from SWIFT.

Putin overplayed his hand. He can’t defend what he’s done now. He can’t come back from this. There will soon be calls for trials in the International Tribunal and he will be convicted in absentia as a war criminal along with many of his Generals.

His soldiers and forward deployed leadership may want to be very careful how they conduct themselves in Ukraine, particularly regarding attacks on “civilians”

The loser, which Russia will eventually be even if they win, doesn’t get to write history.

...Putin Puts Nuclear Forces on High Alert

No big deal.

Russian nuclear weapons in the hands of Putin, are not as big a threat to the U.S. and the world as 'climate change', and the U.S. is putting a much bigger effort towards battling global warming than to deterring Putin and his nuclear weapons.

Leave it to Biden and democrats in leading us against the biggest threat ever to the world; nuclear weapons can only kill hundreds of millions and perhaps billions, while global warming harms the whole world.

The West has the attention span of a three year old.

Putin installs a de facto puppet government in the Ukraine, and then China invades Taiwan.

This becomes as quickly forgotten as the pandemic thing....

” Russia had dropped its preconditions for talks after suffering military setbacks.”

Everyone knows the Russians have held back so far from any sort of shock and awe on civilian infrastructure in hopes the Ukrainians will enter negotiations. But I wouldn’t count on that lasting forever, the Russian have no intention of losing as they’ve categorized Ukraine cozying up to the West as an existential threat, and will do whatever it takes to bring them to heel. And that will include carpet bombing of civilian infrastructure if they have no other choice.

Exactly. It appears that Ukraine is holding its own against Putin so why should Ukraine negotiate?

The longer this goes on, the worse it gets for Putin. Zelensky undoubtedly knows this. He ought to hang that over Putins head.

I don't see where Putin has any negoiating power here and going to any "peace talks" would lend credibility that Putin's winning (when he's not.)

Things haven’t gone well for either side but Russia doesn’t have blown up infrastructure, dead civilians and 140,000 refugees out of the country.
