Post-ABC poll finds a deeply pessimistic nation, worried about the economy and Biden’s leadership

President Biden will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday to a deeply pessimistic nation, one that largely sees the economy worsening under his watch, disapproves of his leadership on key issues and currently prefers that Republicans control Congress after the November elections, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The poll finds Biden’s presidential approval rating at a new low, with 37 percent saying they approve of the job he is doing and 55 percent saying they disapprove. Overall, 44 percent say they strongly disapprove. Predictably, Republicans overwhelmingly disapprove (86 percent) of his job performance, but most independents (61 percent) also rate him negatively. Among Democrats, 77 percent give Biden positive marks.

An underlying weakness affecting perceptions of Biden’s performance in office is the degree to which people have doubts about his personal capacities. On the question of whether he is a strong leader, 59 percent say no and 36 percent say yes — closely aligned with his overall approval rating. Among independents, 65 percent say he is not strong.

On an even more personal question, 54 percent say they do not think Biden has the mental sharpness it takes to serve as president, while 40 percent say he does. The last time this was asked in a Post-ABC poll was in May 2020. At that time, the findings were roughly reversed: 51 percent said candidate Biden possessed the mental sharpness needed to be president compared with 43 percent who said he did not.

Not surprisingly, Republicans and Democrats have wholly opposite views on this question. Among independents, a critical group in the upcoming election, 59 percent offer a negative assessment of the president’s mental sharpness, a rise of 13 points since May 2020.

Joe Biden says delusional Americans are imagining inflation

It’s certainly a novel way for him to deal with the fact that Americans are watching their money vanish.

Hard-left podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen interviewed Biden. The topics were what would expect—Biden’s race- and sex-based Supreme Court nominee, claims that Trump and other Republicans support Putin, boasts about his strategic genius, etc.—but the real surprise was Biden’s claim that COVID has made Americans so psychologically unstable they can’t understand that the Biden economy is wonderful.

Here’s what Americans know: They are facing hard times. The economy is creeping back, but it’s nowhere near what it was under Trump before COVID. In 2019, unemployment was 3.6%. It went up to 6.7% in 2020. It’s now 4%, still short of the pre-COVID rate.

That 4% doesn’t even include the millions of people who dropped out of the workforce. CBS blames long COVID but it’s a good bet stimulus checks have also depressed the workforce. If people are paid not to work, they won’t work. When government money finally ends, they might come back.

Inflation is a problem, too. While wages have increased, those increases haven’t kept pace inflation’s 40 year high. A 3.5% raise is meaningless if life’s necessities (food, shelter, energy costs) increase in price by 7% or more.

Reagan rightly said of inflation that it’s “as violent as a mugger, as frightening as an armed robber, and as deadly as a hitman.” People don’t care whether the inflation is because of the supply chain problem or because Biden’s green energy (or, really, green lack-of-energy) policies have dramatically bumped up the price of fuel. What matters is that their money is losing value daily.

It’s not just Biden. It’s the Democrats. They have morphed into something that is anti-American and highly destructive.

Absolutely brutal poll for Biden and the Dems..from WaPo and ABC?!!

Biden and the Dems are TOAST at this point. The country has had enough of their so-called “leadership” which continues to run America into the ground.

It’s gonna be a Red landslide in November, and the Dems have NO-ONE who can win in 2024.

All we have to do is survive the current mess..which is becoming more challenging by the day.

I learned this morning that Biden cancelled support for the Cyprus gas pipeline to Europe

Biden is not the problem merely a symptom. the real problems are the progressives. They are de facto American enemies

The only good greenie is a dead greenie

They are setting the stage for Biden to announce he will not seek re-election.

That destroys Kamala’s hopes of running on Biden’s coat tails.

It opens up the field for a true communist. That is also why Cuomo had to be taken out.

Biden cancelled the Cyprus to EU pipeline.
Biden suspended licenses for oil/gas drilling in US.
Biden did not put sanctions on Russian oil/gas.

Nobody has done more to empower Russia in the last few months than Biden and the communist environmentalists around the world.

It’s not just Biden. It’s the Democrats.

I would add it’s the voters who elect them.
Too many Americans worry about who hosts Jeapordy than who runs their cities, Congree and the executive. Maybe they’ll wake up this November and it carries over until 2024, but I have grave doubts.

The media is still obsessed with Trump, not Biden. They are also making sure the Woke Commercial is a top priority, for everyone to witness.

Post-ABC poll finds a deeply pessimistic nation, worried about the economy and Biden’s leadership As part of its treacherous lies and deceit the Washington Compost refers to the oxymoronic "Biden's leadership".

Dementiajoe has no more leadership than whatever is floating on top of a clogged toilet.

“Biden and the Dems are TOAST at this point.”

But the good news is, they say we’re going to have elections in seven months. And if everything works out, the Republicans will be giving us more excuses.

Biden got 37% approval?? That seems about 30% too high to me. What has he done right to get 37% approval? I guess it depends entirely on who is being polled & they can say anything they want about who that group was. How would we ever know? I’m thinking they must have polled every liberal Dem in the country to get that high a rating.
