Why Putin's '£15BILLION-a-day' invasion is NOT going to plan: As Ukrainian forces OBLITERATE enemy convoy, Estonia's ex-defence chief says Russia will run out of money, weapons and resources if Kyiv hold out for 10 days

Vladimir Putin’s war with Ukraine is not going to plan due to Kremlin ‘overconfidence’, poor tactical planning, and ‘shock’ at the fierce resistance put up by brave Ukrainians fighting for national survival, intelligence sources have claimed.

Dramatic video shows a destroyed Russian convoy with Z-markings near Kherson in the south of the country on the third day of fighting after Ukraine’s army held control of Kyiv and last night successfully repelled Russian advances on the capital.

Kyiv’s defence ministry has so far put Russia’s losses at around 2,800 troops, 80 tanks, 516 armoured vehicles, and 10 airplanes and seven helicopters so far.

This isn’t really good news. Putin can’t afford defeat so things will get very ugly. The military forces are fairly equal in abilities, but only Ukraine’s citizens are in danger and dying. Russian citizens are safe.

Not good.

I have no side to root for in this mess, but I pray for the citizens of Ukraine.

Yes, but Putin put his elite troops in the lead, and held the ill trained ones in the back. That’s really the difference here.

In WWII they sent the cannon fodder in first.

Watch out for the chechens. Putin hired them as assassins. Ukraine should have offered more money to kill russians.

Good analysis. Anyone thinking the Stalin days of losing entire divisions in a day were still here is sadly mistaken. We began to see in Afghanistan where even then, as the USSR, there were finite limits on the casualties Russia could take.

Some of the thinking is that the initial units were conscripts, not the crack Soviet version of the SS troops who were reserved for the follow-up and control. Dunno. I have also heard 50k of 150k, not 200k, troops.

REMEMBER, Russia’s population has been shrinking badly, and several commentators suggested in 2015 they had a limited window in which to launch serious military ops before their army was compromised by an insufficient pool of draft-age males.

“Vladimir Putin’s war with Ukraine is not going to plan due to Kremlin ‘overconfidence’, poor tactical planning, and ‘shock’ at the fierce resistance put up by brave Ukrainians fighting for national survival..”

Maybe because Putin is surrounded by Yes Men in uniform rather than objective warriors?
Kind of like the butt kissers who planned and executed the pull out from Afghanistan.

> Finland eventually lost that war and lost about a third of its territory. <

True that. Finland lost the Winter War. But they sure gave the Red Army a bloody nose. And of course they picked the wrong side in WW II, and so lost even more territory.

But I find it interesting that Stalin then left Finland alone. The Red Army occupied Axis partners Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. And he set up puppet governments there. But he left Finland alone.

I think we'll see China and Russia establish birthing centers so they will conscript fertile women to raise offspring for their nations. They know they have a serious problem and they are authoritarian so they will force a solution sooner than later.

It’s a horrible choice, no?

A guy from Germany on another forum said things were as bad as they were during the DDR. (House guests enter through the back door, you have to keep your drapes drawn or be arrested for violating quarantine whether you’re sick or not).

We’ll keep buying Russian oil & gas, too, while keeping the ban on fracking.

The sanctions are designed to hurt Americans, not Russia.
