guessed wrong on this one. I thought Putin would bluff and bluster, and then cash in his chips. I thought the weak Western powers would agree to a partition of Ukraine, with the largely Russian-speaking Eastern provinces going to Russia, along with other considerations, unrelated to Ukraine, that would be more or less secret. But Putin invaded instead, and seems bent on conquering all of Ukraine and perhaps more besides.
What made Putin so bold? A key factor no doubt was the weakness of Western leaders, pre-eminently the doddering Joe Biden. But the West’s weakness is not a function of a few individuals. You likely have seen tweets that contrast recruiting ads for the U.S. Army, featuring cartoons and lesbians, with recruiting ads for the Russian and Chinese armies. The contrast is painful.
Along the same lines, Russian generals no doubt have followed closely the introduction of Critical Race Theory into U.S. military training and have drawn appropriate conclusions about the cohesion of our armed forces. And of course there was the Afghanistan debacle.
Putin and his minions also witnessed the bizarre spectacle of the Biden administration suppressing production of American oil and gas, returning the U.S. to a state of energy dependence and driving up the global price of petroleum, thereby enriching Russia. How formidable can an enemy this stupid possibly be? And let’s not forget that the USSR bankrolled the American environmental movement for decades. Was that a good investment, or what?

Yeah well Joe anteed up and then called. He lost. Putin wasn't bluffing. And he was pissed. And he took the pot. And we are wondering what happened.
Uh, geography. Look at a map. And don't forget, like a good drug dealer, he got his target hooked on his product.
The Biden regime is behaving like in occupying power and its fascist goons are still spending more time attacking Americans than being worried about foreign policy.
I didn’t think Putin would invade either; I figured he could get everything he wanted much cheaper using ‘diplomacy.’
The Sov, er, Russians are not flush with money. This cost them a lot. I have to wonder why they thought it was worth the expenditure.
And diaper wearing Puppet Biden bragging about how Putin is so afraid of him.
Yeah, Biden really showed him who’s boss. American Bastille day can’t come soon enough. /spit
Europe has screwed itself. Putin has them by the family jewels, and he knows it. They're completely dependent on Russian energy now, and after this latest move -- which also surprised me -- he'll tighten his grip. Europe has backed itself into a corner -- again.
“I was completely wrong about Putin, but stay tuned for 100 other wrong opinions.” No thanks, John. Maybe shut your mouth for a couple of days and listen to the people who WERE NOT WRONG, instead.
Why did Putin invade ? For the same reason why Xi and Red China will be invading Taiwan shortly...
BECAUSE.
THEY.
CAN.
I guess Putin invaded because:
- He’s always wanted to
- Biden goaded him into it
- He isn’t the least bit afraid of consequences from weak USA
- He can
Putin is both evil and insane.
I have to confess too, that I have never thought Putin will invade.
I think he was invited by Biden’s erratic behavior in Afghanistan and his speeches. Biden basically told him all he would do (you never do that, you should keep your opponent guessing) and Putin weighted then and decided he will forgo his Florida vacations for beaches in Ukraine (Ukraine has decent beeches).
Honestly, nobody abroad takes the resident of the White House seriously!
So they just decided to do what they always wanted to do, but could not do.
I think Taiwan is next (I hope, I am wrong, but...)
In Putin’s case, that means to restore the old Russia to her old Tsarist glory!
Not seeing many posts about Fauci & Covid or runaway inflation any more...?
Exactly. Because they can.
All part of a coordinated plan.
Putin invaded because he has imperial ambitions and has no fear of weak Biden or the Europeans.
Like Trump said ... he gets all of Ukraine for about $2 worth of sanctions.
Maybe they got a nice deal from the Chinamen…
my thoughts exactly
For the same reason a dog licks his balls. Because they can.
