A Ukrainian journalist, citing the country’s Interior Ministry, reported on Thursday that the country has distributed 10,000 automatic rifles to civilians since Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale assault on Ukraine.

I agree if Putin does not roll up Ukraine fast desertion will be high and very low morale. Then he will get bogged down quick in a quagmire he cannot afford.

Ukraine had plenty of time to prepare hope they used it wisely.
Modern semiauto precision rifles with scopes are now as accurate as bolt action rifles.
Putin would call it a success. He may have a simple task. Capture and/or execute the Ukrainian leadership. Then call it a day. He wouldn't allow himself get into another Afghanistan. He's too smart for that. He'll cut his losses when necessary.
For sharpshooting use 7.62x54R in scoped bolt guns for ease of logistics.

As a side note, there was some US ex-general on Maria B’s show this morning advocating a negotiated surrender because civilian casualties in Kyiv would be unacceptable. Calling the hand out of arms to civilians a mistake.
