Former President Donald Trump called Russian President Vladimir Putin smart and criticized the U.S. response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“I mean, he’s taking over a country for $2 worth of sanctions. I’d say that’s pretty smart,” Mr. Trump said during a fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Wednesday night, according to a recording of the event posted online, contending that Mr. Putin wouldn’t have invaded if he were still president.
In a telephone interview with Fox News late Wednesday night, as Russia launched its invasion, Mr. Trump called the unfolding events a “very sad thing for the world and the country.” He said Mr. Biden hadn't done enough to dissuade Mr. Putin from invading.
“He was going to be satisfied with a piece and now he sees the weakness and the incompetence and the stupidity of this administration,” Mr. Trump said on Fox News on Wednesday night.
It is the second time Mr. Trump called Mr. Putin smart in recent days. He made similar comments during a radio interview earlier this week.

Talk about lack of context. I know the media is click driven and biased, but this is ridiculous.
For many reasons this country needs Trump back in the White House. That won’t happen if Trump keeps talking like this. Yes, Putin was “smart” to make his move when he did. But for Trump to say it was the opposite of smart.
The spotlight should be on Biden’s diplomatic failures. Unfortunately, Trump has now given the media something else to talk about. We will ignore it. But the soccer moms won’t.
Trump knows that Putin didn’t just come up with a plan for this invasion on his own, but that it was part of a charade that was negotiated between the Russians and the U.S. government.

Technically he’s right. Looking at it objectively, as if playing a board game, it’s a good move.
This is one of the reasons so many aligned against Trump. He says these things, when they shouldn’t be said. It’s like criticizing a man at his wake.
Yup, Putin and even NATO sees the US as weak and ineffective. Joe first said he would not commit any US troops to save Ukraine, then he said he would allow NATO to used a Carrier Group, then he said that only NATO planes would be used, no US planes. Putin sees this as a green light to do anything he wants as the US will not intervene. So he and the world sees an effeminate guy at the phone saying: “Oh please, Vlad should be wearing a floral tie when he calls me.”

I am a Putin fanboy. I don’t care that Putin is obtaining Ukraine. Trump’s apparent indifference seems to match mine.
