When I was growing up, clove cigarettes were the domain of the Goth/Emo crowd.

I was just wondering if anyone remembered clove cigarettes. Was that 83-84 when they first became popular?

That’s when I first encountered them. They came from Turkey, and I don’t think they allow them to be imported anymore. They did smell a damn sight better than regular cigs though.

Nope.

Newports.

Decades ago I worked in the Chicago Hyatt Regency sundry shop, Faber's. Black men smoked Kools, black women were more likely to go for Newports. Japenese liked Kent, Frenchies were the only ones to get Tareyton, only southerners got Lark (and rarely). Benson & Hedges, Marlboro and Winston led in the general populace.

Now, a lot may have changed, but the smokes for black folks may vary with age and region. I think there is still room for both Kool and Newport.

Hate to tell you Laz, but every black smoker I ever met in the Marine Corps would KILL YOU FOR A KOOL.

We used to get a 4 pack (all different brands) in all our C-rats, I could buy anything I wanted from the black smoking Marines with Kools; pound cake, fruit cocktail, any main course, hell dope if I had wanted it.

My Mom sent me Camels from home so the C-rat smokes were for barter usually.
