As Americans, there is little that is more important to us than freedom — but we must never forget that our democracy, and the freedoms it protects, relies on responsibility. Perhaps nowhere is this ideological collaboration more evident than with guns and the Second Amendment. But this all-important balance has been stretched to the breaking point in state after state, most recently in Texas.
Last week in Houston, an armed robbery turned into a tragedy of the worst kind. The victim of an armed robbery turned around and became the perpetrator, accidentally killing a 9-year-old girl as he fired at his fleeing attacker. The child died after being shot in the back seat of her family’s pickup truck; the robbery suspect got away. Meanwhile in Utah on Monday, a four-year-old got ahold of his father's gun and shot at police during an argument at a McDonald's (the father was arrested.)
For years, irresponsible lobbyists and politicians have told us that freedom is all that matters; and that having a gun is a simple way to stop crime in its tracks: “Shoot first and ask questions later.” As National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre is fond of saying, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. But the truth is that in the heat of a chaotic situation, nothing is simple. Chaos and tragedy too often win out.....
Despite what the NRA wants you to believe, people very rarely use guns for self-defense. Research shows that guns are far more likely to be used for suicide or homicide than they are for self-defense. In 2018, there were 34 gun homicides, 82 gun suicides, and two unintentional gun deaths, for every one instance of a justifiable homicide.

nbc=nuthin but crap
And....they leave out the details surrounding the events...on purpose.
Balderdash. People wearing seatbelts and motorcyle helmets still die on the roads too. People getting ‘vaccinated’ still die of Covid too.
Shut. Up. NBC, you are stupid.
Not only that, but they only use the FBIs very restricted definition of justified homicide.
The FBI undercounts justified homicide by at least 5 to one. At least two studies have verified that number. For every justified homicide recorded by the FBI, there are at least four others which are not recorded.
1. Fleeing suspect=no shoot most places
2. Perp in Utah allegedly directed the 4 year old to shoot. Wonder where the youth trained................
Another attempt by the Ministry of Propaganda to convince us that being disarmed is in our interests.
From the CDC:
“In the United States:
“More children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects.
“For children ages 1–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes.”
Unfortunately, you are responsible for every bullet that leaves the muzzle of your gun, and the victim purposely shot at the passing truck holding the girl under the mistaken belief that the robber was inside. So this victim will be held accountable for killing the girl.
But the fact remains that the robbery victim was threatened with deadly force and responded accordingly.

“...our democracy...”
Lying hit piece.
“Shoot first and ask questions later.” As National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre is fond of saying....
In quotes. I highly doubt Wayne Lapierre ever said this. Much less “is fond of” saying it.
Ever wonder why just one or two cases of vaccine injury don’t “expose the deadly mythology” the CDC is trying to spread about vaccines?
“...people very rarely use guns for self-defense.”
It’s not a good idea to read articles written by individuals who are so uninformed or more likely lying.
John Lott is the best source on this stuff. He’s been proving them wrong since the 90s.
Victim turned “predator”? Bull cookies! An accident does ot make someone a Predator. The Predator was the thug who came in to directly and specifically prey on victims
NBC never been cognizant
this guy is an ass
There’s not a true statement in this article. Is this guy’s name really Ryan?
“The victim of an armed robbery turned around and became the perpetrator, accidentally killing a 9-year-old girl as he fired at his fleeing attacker.”
That has to be a warning to anyone who gets attacked and uses deadly force against their attacker. If I fire and miss, is that round going to hit an innocent bystander?
I thought you aren’t supposed to shoot at fleeing suspects that are no longer a danger to you. The victim turned killer will have his day for justice and have to answer for his discharge of a gun.
