Virginia lawmakers pass bill restoring misdemeanor reporting requirements for school principals

Virginia school principals will have to once again report certain misdemeanors to law enforcement after Democrats in the state Senate voted with Republicans to pass one of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s legislative priorities.

The bill from Del. Scott Wyatt (R-Hanover) that lawmakers passed Monday was one of many backed by Youngkin that proposed to roll back a law giving principals and superintendents discretion on reporting some misdemeanors that occur on school grounds.

Under the current law, administrators have to report felonies but have discretion when referring students to law enforcement for conduct that could be a misdemeanor in Virginia. These include assault and battery, threats made against school employees, alcohol or drug use and stalking.

The legislation received bipartisan support in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly and is expected to be signed by Youngkin after his office reviews the measure.

“As another priority from his game one day plan moves through the legislative process, the governor looks forward to reviewing it when it comes to his desk because reporting incidents in schools is critically important for the safety of kids across Virginia,” Youngkin spokesperson Macaulay Porter said in a statement.

Didn’t anyone tell Youngkin that he’s supposed to be a RINO?

After what I’ve seen with school boards and CRT, I’m not getting a warm fuzzy towards the possibility of abuse, UNLESS the principles know, without a shadow of a doubt that false reporting is breaking the law, and subject to trial.

LOL! The Grifter blogs and the trailer crowd were viciously trashing Youngkin even before he was inaugurated. I really do believe that they were upset that Fast Terry didn’t “steal the election” because it undermines their doom peddling.

It turns out that Youngkin has been governing like a conservative, despite their best efforts to pretend otherwise.

I’m not deifying the man just yet. I do like what I’ve seen so far, but it’s early days yet.

Grassroots conservatives shouldn’t deify ANY politician, including Trump. They’ve had a persistent habit of falling asleep after a good guy gets elected and expecting him to do it all.

Since evidently the Rat Traitors still control the State Senate, how refreshing that a GOP politician doing the people’s bidding actually gets the Rats to fall in line even if just for a brief time.

“The legislation received bipartisan support...”

Obviously, this is an election year...

Don’t be fooled; they know which way the wind is blowing, they run in the year AFTER the upcoming bloodbath of 2022, and they did this in the interest of their own self-preservation.
