A wave of pro-Trump, outsider candidates running in the 2022 Republican primaries could result in a major shift of the party to the right.
The direction the GOP is soon to take should become visible next week following the Texas primaries on March 1. A number of officers in the nation’s second-most populous state — including the governor, attorney general, and agriculture commissioner — face heated primary challenges, as do various GOP House incumbents.
The battle between establishment incumbents and insurgent challengers will expand from there into other states, the expectation being that a new generation of officeholders will make the Republican Party more constitutionalist and populist.
Several factors make 2022 a prime opportunity for newcomers to defeat entrenched incumbents. In some cases, President Donald Trump is directly recruiting and endorsing challengers at every level — from the U.S. Senate and Congress to state legislatures — as part of an effort to cement his hold over the party.
Also, a slew of retirements has created open seats that can be more viably be won by outsider candidates. And even where there are incumbents, redistricting has made seats competitive by taking away many of those incumbents’ support bases.
Additionally, there is the raw energy of the base, much of it in the form of anger, that makes Republicans likely to vote against the status quo.
“Primaries are always f–d up to some degree, but it’s different now,” said John Thomas, a Republican strategist who works on House campaigns across the country. “There’s more self-hate than there was before. Ten years ago, we’d argue about who was more pro-gun, who was more pro-life. Now, my clients are going RINO hunting, which is a level of disdain that was not there before in our party.”

Good.
Surprised they didn’t use verbiage like “Seize Control of the GOP”, like the MSM would always do.
What good are Assistant Democrats? From school boards to count clerks to state seats, go local.
Trump made the GOPe reveal itself.
Fixed it.
I wish these pin striped geniuses would quit wishing the Republican Party to the right. My only real complaint with Goldwater, my copy of his book is 1963, is that he claimed the political right for conservatism.
In the old definition the political right was status quo don’t rock the boat, look out for the big stuff and the small stuff would take care of itself.
I believe conservatism should stand for doing the right thing-—for everybody. That should be the political DEAD CENTER. RINO’s squishes, wishy washes need to be eliminated. no problem there. But I wish our newbies would stand in the middle-—for doing the right thing, for the long term stability of the nation.
And oh by the way-—could they stand for cleaning up the last election? No one gets money from me who will not say that. boomchakalaka
As a matter of fact MAGA is not really right wing, at least not far right wing. Trump gained a lot of support from working class people, Hispanics and even blacks.
In many ways Trumpism is against some right wing theories (like open border, free international trade).
MAGA is MAGA. Definitely to the right of WOKE, but centrist in many ways.
Yeah, Everyone’s a Trump supporter ... Until their not!
🙄🙄🙄🙄
Somebody needs to remind the so-called “establishment” Republicans what happened to the Whig Party. Lead, follow or get the flip out of the way.
After decades of RINO napping, a stampede suddenly looks possible. They will all charge to the right, until after the election.
🙂
God willing, yes. No war seekers need apply.
The way we get our country back is to vote out every RINO who must face a primary and replace them with conservative, constitutional patriots.
It was RINO-controlled state legislatures who gave the Steal on a platter to the Vegetable by not enforcing voter ID and rolling over on the cheat-by-mail-in ballots and doing nothing about the stuffed ballot drop-off boxes.
Democrats could have never gotten away with the Steal without the RINOs allowing it.
Once upon a time that would be hyperbole just to illustrate how Biden will use a crisis to shore up his power, not a literal prediction that he'd go full on fascist dictator. But after Canada I can't rule it out anymore. Horrifying to think that it's now something that could be considered even remotely possible.
A “conservative” takeover of the GOP will produce a rump party with about 30% of the vote in most elections.
A NEW party made up of former Republicans and Democrats who promise conservative social values enforced by a muscular state, and liberal economics rooted in the actual Constitution that puts a stop to usury for money creation and protects domestic industries and domestic labor>
A party like that has a future.
Yeah, except for the “muscular state.”
Liberal democracy or liberdopianism is no match for the level of bolshevik insurgency that now exists in this country.
The problem we have is not that the State is too powerful, it is that it is too weak.
If you want our enemies to lose (as I presume you do), you are going to have to be willing to deploy tactics that are far outside of the realm of constitutional propriety.
As Butcher Lincoln supposedly said, “the Constitution is not a suicide pact”.
The problem we have isn't authoritarianism, it's the wrong people having the authority.
The nonaggression principle and freedom of speech is not going to remove them from power.
