State Senate president seeks commitment to renewable energy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island’s Senate president wants to require the state to be powered completely by renewable energy by 2030.

Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio introduced legislation this week. The Senate approved his similar legislation last year, but it stalled in the House.

Former Gov. Gina Raimondo signed an executive order in 2020 setting a goal for the electric grid to operate with 100% renewable energy by 2030. Ruggerio’s bill would write that goal into law, accelerate current plans and outline the path forward.

“Rhode Islanders are already feeling the effects of climate change and the risks facing our communities will grow increasingly dire in the years ahead,” Ruggerio said. “This legislation sets out a bold but achievable goal.”

Current state law requires annual 1.5 percentage point increases in the amount of electricity required to be generated from renewable sources through 2035. Ruggerio wants increases of 4% in 2022, 5% in 2023, 6% in 2024, 11% in 2025, 2026 and 2027, and 11.5% in 2028, 2029 and 2030, achieving a 100% Renewable Energy Standard in 2030.

The world is in shambles and rapidly getting worse, and THIS is what the insane left focuses on? New England will uninhabitable without fossil fuels.

Offshore windmills and New England solar are going to replace fossil fuels? What a dream world these kooks like in.

If they really want their wet dream to be real, they need to get the shuttered nukes in New England going again.

The overabundance of news stories telling them about global warming would be the extent of it.

EVERY DemocRAT state should be totally powered by renewable energy.
That way, those of us who actually know about physics will enjoy watching our states prosper while the clueless libs freeze to death in the dark.

I would settle for one city in the northeast going totally green.
Of course,it will never happen.

The key question is: At what cost?
It is impossible to run/control a power system that is 100% renewable, unless it consists of predominantly hydro power plants.
Solar and wind will not cut it, they are intermittent sources of power. It is amazing how technically ignorant people can impose impossible goals without any consideration to damages this will cause to consumers.

Why wait? Why the delay? I mean, puppies are dying every day, choking to death on the poisonous carbon dioxide fumes from your cars.

Have some courage, and do it now! 2030 is eight full years away — thousands and thousands of puppies will be dead by then.

There is simply no time left. Make a law, and do it right now, this week! OUTLAW gasoline and other awful petroleum products.

Sure, it’ll mean a little inconvenience, but there’s public transportation everywhere, so you can do it — if you really want to.

No problemo there Dominick, BUT, you have to isolate RI’s electrical infrastructure from the rest of the bulk transmission grid. You can’t be leaning on PJM to provide load balancing to match supply with demand. So when the wind quits blowing and the sun don’t shine you get to explain to all of your constituents who are freezing in the dark that it’s all for the greater good of saving the planet.

That was the genius of the founders in creating a federal system where each state would be free to run things as they saw fit, even if it was total idiocy.

They figured the idiocy would soon materialize and other states would learn from it.

I say to RIers, go for it - show us how brilliant you are.

Rhode Island.... Population and budget of 4 Counties in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois or Indiana, or that of Indianapolis Indiana less the professional sports teams and world class race tracks.

We dont listen to the crazy mayor of Atlanta, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, St Louis or Chicago with much larger stakes. Why do we listen to Rhode Island... it is a fake state created to offset the power of the south in the 1770s.

Like birds, Rhode Island isnt real.
