Pinkerton: Joke of the Day: ‘Vulnerable’ Senate Dems Propose Cutting Gas Tax
breitbart ^ | 19 Feb 2022 | JAMES P. PINKERTON

Here’s an actual headline good for some laughs: “Vulnerable Senate Dems try to run as tax-cutters.” That howler of a header appeared this week in Politico.

As the publication explained, four Democratic senators all up for re-election in 2022— Mark Kelly of Arizona, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, and Raphael Warnock of Georgia—are now in favor of suspending the federal gasoline tax, which is 18.4 cents a gallon.

Politico added slyly, “It’s no coincidence that the Democrats most involved in the new push hail from the toughest battlegrounds.” And the article further added that in light of the failure of big-ticket legislative items such as Build Back Better, Democrats are “racing to cobble together an agenda that convinces voters that the party is responding to their biggest concern: rising costs.”

Notably, national gasoline prices have surged by 40 percent in the last year, from around $2.40 a gallon to $3.40.

And yet it wasn’t so long ago that Democrats were mostly in favor of steps to reduce drilling for oil and natural gas, knowing full well that clamping down on supply would raise prices.

Indeed, it was just in 2020 that House Democrats unveiled a plan for eliminating CO2 from cars by 2035. And that same campaign year, candidate Joe Biden declared, “I would transition from the oil industry, yes. It has to be replaced by renewable energy.”

So it’s obvious what Democrats as a whole really think: We shouldn’t have a fossil-fuel industry

The nationalist and deregulatory energy policies of Donald Trump made America back into a great energy superpower, fully able to provide for itself and export energy to allies and other customers.

Taxes can be cut after they are out of office too.

If they do, California will more than make up for it.

Either they are stupid....or they think you are stupid.

Most assuredly it is the latter.

The only effective way to lower prices is to increase supply.

Crude oil price increased 75% in the last 12 months. Brandon did that.

All the Republicans giggly and gleeful about the "red wave" coming in Nov. should sober up.

We're about to be tossed a hot potato (more like a giant hot steaming asteroid).

The Rats are hoping this sinking economic ship holds together (as they flee to the life rafts) til Nov, so they can point and blame us for the fiscal collapse and hyperinflation.

Good luck with that, Rats. The next few months will be crucial. The Fed will raise interest rates - or prices will keep rising. Both have bad effects which will stick to the Dems but - endangers everyone in our country because the unavoidable "corrections" will be disastrous for the unarmed and unprepared.

I wake up each morning wondering if this will be the day...

$20 for a 12 pack of beer at the market. I made a snide remark to the cashier about paying nearly $2 per beer. He said “just wait. Gas is going to $7.50 a gallon, that beer will cost you $2.50, and the Democrats will be crushed in November”.

Yes. Of course. But we live in a corporatist state. They don't like competition so don't count on increases of supply. Eventually, perhaps, capital will come in to invest in new production because of the profit motive. But it is a very long cycle before that happens. It will start with common commodities with the lower cost capital investment. Oil and Gas - maybe never. Too much consolidation not just in the oil patch but across the board. Most multinationals don't produce a thing they just outsource it and squeeze their suppliers.

It’s amazing how stupid these politicians are. a REAL tax cutter would end the tax, not ‘suspend’ it for a short time. They’re stupid for thinking voters would fall for this.

With a willing and compliant liberal media, anything is possible. Especially with low information voters.

Warlock is getting desperate in GA. He’s running an ad saying that he crosses party lines and votes for what’s best for GA.

In reality, he’s a Schumer stooge.

I spoke to a Dem capitol hill lawyer yesterday (yes it's possible to have friends on the other side). He said, "when we lose the majority after the election."

He did not say "if," he said "when." They've accepted they are going to lose the House, at least.

This just shows how dedicated they are to destroy the economy. Everything is free when the government prints money. Of course that leads to more inflation. Less revenue from gas taxes means more debt, which leads to more money printing, which leads to more inflation, which leads to higher gas prices. They do nothing to fix the problem, which only requires increasing supply. Cut regulations, open federal lands and waters to more drilling. That increases supply, lowers gas prices, lowers the prices of everything made from oil, lowers the prices of everything transported, increases employment, increase tax revenue. But that is enough. No more tax cuts until government is cut - deeply and radically cut. Government is now used as a weapon against the people. Slash 90% of the federal government.
