Four Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicle employees have been fired after the agency said it discovered approximately 2,100 drivers were granted licenses without having to take a road test.
An internal investigation by MassDOT and the RMV has determined that starting in April of 2018, approximately 2,100 customers were given road test passing scores by two road test examiners at the Brockton Service Center without taking the road test.
MassDOT said it first noticed suspicious activity regarding some customer accounts back in 2020 and launched a probe, enlisting the help of Massachusetts law enforcement.
"The RMV has terminated four employees involved in this matter and will continue to work with law enforcement on their ongoing investigation," MassDOT spokesperson Jacquelyn Goddard said.
Two road test examiners and two service center employees were fired as part of the investigation.
Letters have been sent to customers who did not complete the road test, according to RMV records.
"All of the impacted individuals have been contacted and will be required to take and pass a road test within 10 days," the MassDOT spokesperson said.
If a customer does not take the road test within ten days, their license will be suspended.
MassDOT said since making the discovery, additional preventative measures have been put into place, including instituting additional controls in the system used for license transactions.
The incident is the latest to raise questions about the RMV's handling of critical documents.
In 2019, a Massachusetts driver whose license should have been suspended based on a violation in Connecticut caused a crash in New Hampshire that killed seven motorcyclists.
Following the crash, the RMV disclosed that thousands of out-of-state violation notices had gone unreviewed and were being kept in boxes.

I am going to wayy.. out on a limb here and ask the question, are there any racial or cultural connections to the drivers who were just given a “free ride,” so to speak?
We should start with a 50% cut in all government budgets at all levels. Then we can see how deep the second round of cuts should be.
These people are just crooks.
That’s to help them drive all their illegal friends / family to the polls next November. Tip of the iceberg we’re steaming towards.

“If a customer does not take the road test within ten days, their license will be suspended”
Anybody with a lick of common sense knows a suspended license doesn’t stop someone from driving if they want to.
Smh
I went to an Italian opera last week. It was second only to the sounds of government budgets being cut.

Wait until I have another coffee and I can think again.
Nothing from Brockton surprises me. Nothing good has come out of there since Marvin Hagler.
Posters I raised a question but honestly, I do not think insulting racial slang is the best way to discuss this.
let’s be chartable and Christian as well. We can identify a group who is flaunting the law without labeling them insultingly. Mind you now, if a person earns it I am all for mockery as a tool to disarm evil.
Diversity is our strength.........Colleen Ogilvie is Registrar of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), a position she has held in an interim capacity since January 21, 2021.
