In the ongoing struggle of SARS-CoV-2’s genes versus our wits, the virus that causes Covid-19 relentlessly probes human defenses with new genetic gambits. New variants of this coronavirus with increasing transmissibility have sprung up every few months, a scenario that is likely to continue.
Some experts believe that the pandemic appears to be on an evolutionary slide toward becoming endemic, a “new normal” in which humans and the virus co-exist, as we currently do with influenza. But coronaviruses are clever. While an endemic resolution may be in sight, SARS-CoV-2 could still shock the human species with a devastating evolutionary leap.
Here are four possible scenarios, each taken directly from the known evolutionary playbook of coronaviruses.

More fearmongering claptrap.
No—there’s a different evolutionary scenario that destroys the one these guys are talking about.
The evolution of awareness. People won’t fall for the lies anymore.
Sounds like boosters every month. Can we get a card for a free 5 gallons of gas once you have 5 boosters? This is making my head hurt.
Abraham Lincoln: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."
The issue is that the "some of the people" that they can fool all of the time keeps growing.
The article sounds like they’re describing communism.
Why are these "analysis" not terrified of cancer, car accidents, heart disease or the annual Flu? The odds are much higher of them dying from one of those then from Covid.
Ah but drama queen fear porn and panic mongering is so much more profitable in termns of Goverment grant money then then honest rational analysis.
“There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
G.W. Bush
I had the first two Pfizer shots on 3/6/21 & 3/27/21, a Flu shot on 8/28/21, and the Pfizer booster on 10/2/21. At 72, and even with 7 co-morbidities, I’m done with anymore shots.
The title makes it sound like they have a brain or some guiding mechanism. That is far from the truth.
Coronaviruses are prolific reproducers. They are also lousy reproducers.
When a new mutation “works” it is only because a billion other mutations did not. And every time the virus clones itself, there are mutations. The number of virus in a person is measured in the millions.
If you have a key making machine, and you make a million different keys every day...eventually one with fit the front door.
The Biotech division of the Medical Industrial Complex is feverishly working on developing a more deadly strain for worldwide distribution.
Actually an informative, unbiased article although not technical.
1. Authors anthropomorphize viruses. They don’t have agency. They don’t ‘probe’ or have ‘gambits’ or are ‘clever’ or have a ‘playbook’.
2. Author uses term ‘evolutionary’....after how many octillion reproductive cycles and we still find coronavirus. It doesn’t even mutate out of coronavirus category. It is a great example of biological stasis. What do you think the chances are the the virus can mutate to become a bacteria or mycoplasma, or a prion or even an influenza virus?
If you don't pay up for virus protection , they send you a virus
The old endless wars produced by the Military Industrial Complex has gone to seed
A set of possible scenarios is not news. It is conjecture, even if penned by a physician.
The platform for this article, for its own website, is "produced by Boston Globe Media. Our headquarters is in Boston but we have journalists across the country and also cover international stories. It was launched in November 2015 by John Henry, the owner of Boston Globe Media and the principal owner of the Boston Red Sox. Rick Berke is the co-founder and executive editor."
this co-founder, one reads: "Rick Berke is the co-founder and executive editor of STAT.... Before launching STAT, he was executive editor of Politico."
This, like Dr. Burke's speculation, the platform STAT specializes in speculative content written as if reporting, as does Politico, a DC establishment "news" entity.
As to Dr. Burke's article, like so much surrounding the "event," it is written with wiggle words aplenty. High class fear. But fear nonetheless.
A synopsis from the article: "Some experts believe...." "...possible scenarios...." "...may well follow the same path...." "...it could create a hybrid that spawns a new pandemic...." "...it is possible...." "...the new virus could evade...." "...the new variant could...." "...strains may have already evolved...."
For a science article, that's a lot of wiggle words. But Burke asserts, "None of these epidemic scenarios is a fantasy."
I assert and argue that his seemingly erudite article wiggles with words quite like a fantasy. Something akin to "two weeks to flatten the curve" and "safe and effective," the last being a marketing slogan.
Covid-365.
Well, ask the Chinese and the NAIAD what they designed it to do.
That should tell you what direction it is going to take.
So what are Fauci and China preparing for us next?
