THE SPECTRE OF war looms over Europe. As Russian troops mass around Ukraine’s borders there is a palpable sense of crisis. In Ukraine, however, there is a combination of resignation and grim determination to survive. If Russia invades, Ukrainians will fight. 1 But the real threat to their country is viewed as multifaceted and enduring. Ukrainians must not only deter military aggression, but survive the political, social and economic war that Russia is waging against their country. The multiple strands of Russia’s assault on Ukraine have been widely discussed in terms of the activity that Russia undertakes – cyber attacks being a prominent example 2 – and in debates about the ends sought,3 but rarely are these actions and intentions framed in operational terms. This Special Report seeks to outline what Russia is trying to achieve in Ukraine, and how it is operationalising that intent through the synchronised application of state power.

I guess the UK is also trying to get a war started.
They do sell a lot of arms.
I fully support Ukraine independence. Don’t want to see war or conflict.
Putin and his murderous dogs need to back down.
Good analysis. Not many people understand that Moldova is also a target of Russian domination and invasion.
If the Russians invade Ukraine they will not stop at the Moldovan border.
“I guess the UK is also trying to get a war started.”
Unless Russia starts the war there will be no war. But if they think they can dictate terms to the West, to NATO, and to the former Soviet slave states who passionately hate their former slave masters then they are sadly mistaken.
Prior comment still stands:
“Putin’s plan is to take Ukraine without a war. He certainly has a faction in Ukraine on his side (money and power talks) and he isn’t worried about Ukraine having time to prepare.”

So funny. Thanks
It’s pretty much the best summation of how the world works that I’ve ever heard.
Syria.. pipeline war. Ukraine also.
If the Russians invade Ukraine they will not stop at the Moldovan border.

Putin isn’t going to invade all of Ukraine so the question is what parts does he want? Maybe just the eastern portion of the country? That would be quick and relatively easy.
The Poles will move their troops into Western Ukraine if the Russians go past the Donbass.
But one place to look out for, is the Balkans if Russia makes a move, it’s still a tinderbox, and as the Croats are part of NATO, it could trigger actions from the Serbs, also things are getting dicey in Bosnia now too.
Nobody except neocons and frustrated cold warriors and grifter democrats actually cares about Ukraine.
And Ukraine has infiltrated and done tremendous damage to the US Government and sabotaged Trump. And they can’t tear their mouth away from the US nipple.
Screw em.
There won’t be a war unless Kiev tried to invade and capture Donbass or Crimea.
Exactly. There’s no one to root for here, and nothing in it for us.
Yeah I’m thinking just the eastern tip.
“Putin isn’t going to invade all of Ukraine”
The Russian troops in Belarus would need to go through Kiev to get to the eastern part of Ukraine so you’re suggesting they’d just politely pass through, take in the sights, smile at the girls, and then peacefully travel to Donbass?
