After some media reports today (and based on wording of a White House press release), the feeling among many is Canada is that Biden/USA demanded the bridges be cleared - and butt-boy Trudeau responded.
Maybe this cop sees something coming and he doesn’t want to be the fall guy

‘Residents’ need to realize that the cops are there to keep the peace & protect property, not be their private attack dogs. If that means they look the other way in the interests of not inflaming the situation, that’s what they are going to do. There are times when that attitude will tick off conservatives, but that doesn’t make the tactic unsound.

As of last week Mr Sloly stood by his response, telling Newstalk 580 he had "absolutely no" intention to step down. "I came here to do a job and I'm going to get that job done all the way through," he said.No one is ever going to resign, until he resigns.
As a general rule, if someone in the public eye makes a big deal about not resigning, the reasonable assumption is that s/he is going to resign.
