Simple: Do not voluntarily allow yourself to be admitted to a hospital or nursing home. Create a Living Will and stipulate that your medical power-of-attorney follow your instructions in that regard. Of course, the all-powerful government may seek to override your wishes “for your own good.” But, if you’re on Medicare or Medicaid, the government may put pencil to paper and do some arithmetic and decide it is too costly to hospitalize you, in which case it may agree with you!

My mom developed dementia during this whole Covid mess, I moved into her house to care for her, I have to say that over my entire life this was the most difficult task I have EVER HAD!! There was NO WAY I was going to put her in assisted care where no one could visit her AND being in a completely strange environment!! I honestly feel horrible for those families who found themselves in situations being kept from their loved ones who were in ill health!!!

“Perhaps the cruelest lockdown policy: preventing people from visiting their sick loved ones in hospitals or long-term care facilities”

Absolutely the truth. Thank God for Gov. DeSantis fighting back. These horrible acts of cruelty were often not even because of state or county or even federal orders, but because these policies were imposed by the hospitals themselves. There needs to be a patient protection law like this all over the country.

One of the saddest things I saw was a middle aged couple standing in the bushes near the ground floor windows of a two-story nursing/rehabilitation facility in my neighborhood. They were calling up at the window, “Mother, mother, we love you,” and holding up a cardboard sign with the woman’s name on it. I think they hoped that some of the staff would see it and tell her.

Even the clergy was not allowed into hospitals, and people died without the last rites or even just prayers, for those who weren’t Catholics.

And then the funeral homes and churches weren’t allowed to or didn’t have funerals for months after the person had died alone.

This was massive, massive cruelty.

THIS! I'm a hospice nurse. I could get in when families could not. What I saw was truly disturbing. The long-term care industry, en mass, used COVID as an excuse to isolate seniors and deprive them of appropriate care and nutrition. I made NUMEROUS reports to State regulatory agencies.

Criminal. A good friend’s brother was in the hospital with covid/pneumonia. The doctors said that his brother was not coming home and would die in the hospital. When asked to see his brother for the last time he was refused. After demanding to see his brother regardless of their rules, the hospital security was called and he was escorted off the premises and told he would not be allowed back on hospital grounds at all. His brother died that same day. Hospitals and personnel do not have our best interests at heart.

Our grand kid’s other grandmother died by herself in a NJ home for the aged about 2 weeks into the pandemic. No body was allowed to see her. Our/her granddaughter was a nursing student an hour’s drive away, and they refused to allow her to see her grandmother. This woman’s local and west coast family members were told not even try to see her and her funeral was finally allowed in August.

One of my best friends and a fellow church member with Parkinson’s developed a lung problem in the advanced care unit, in an supposedly top nursing home, and no one could see him due to a possibility of Covid. This was in the early stages, when the 5 governors were wiping out people like my friend. This happened in N. Californian at about the same time the woman cited above died in NJ.

Last year a SIL, an RN developed terminal adult onset leukemia. Before that diagnosis, she was not able to see a doctor for checkups for 2+ years. Post diagnosis, then, they tried all types of treatments which failed. Her disease was too advanced.

Somehow, she got herself into hospice and died at home with her family.

We have other sad and similar realities.

A marine vet with NavSec NSA/grp connections recently died. He checked himself out of the local hospital so his wife and adult children could be with him. Covid, again was not a confirmed diagnosis.

My wife needs a hip replacement and has been on hold until last week due to Covid not with her or me just in general.

She is now scheduled on 1 March. The OR staff people are in constant phone and online discussions with her. With each phone call, she tells them, that she wants me to be with her before she is operated on and post op. She reconfirmed that in a phone call today. 2 weeks ago, that was not possible. It is now, if she requests it.

The hospital, where the Marine checked himself out to die with his family, is still restricting/banning family members to be with their post op and terminal friends.

My friend’s wife quit her care giver job at an “old folks” home. They locked the residents down like they were in solitary at a local prison. At feeding time they made the people move to the far side of the room, then the staff would put the food on a table next to the door, then shut the door leaving them all alone all day and night. No visitors, no interaction with each other, no talking to staff. She was so depressed witnessing this she couldn’t work there anymore.
