Georgia's Stacey Abrams rocketed to such political stardom after her narrow 2018 loss to Republican Gov. Brian Kemp that Democrats essentially cleared the field for her bid for governor this year.
But now that Abrams’ campaign has begun, she’s campaigning in an environment that’s different and in some ways trickier than what she faced four years ago.
In her first high-profile stumble of this campaign, Abrams apologized on CNN Tuesday for having removed her mask for a picture with masked school children — a photo she had shared on Twitter and quickly deleted. Republicans widely criticized the photo as a hypocritical violation of the school’s mask policy.
The backlash underscored both Democrats’ struggles with pandemic politics and the intense spotlight that’s now on Abrams compared to 2018, when Republicans and many in the national media paid less attention to the former state Democratic House leader at the outset of her first statewide campaign.
"It's going to be a harder race now," Kasim Reed, a Democrat and the former mayor of Atlanta, said.

I have NO DOUBT that this event caused the all-of-a-sudden avalanche of the dropping of mask mandates by democrat governors.
Her Rotundity can't get out of her own way, but then few others can either.
Summary:
It will be harder to cheat this time in Georgia.
I’m certain the people of Georgia understand that Stacey Abrams should not be held to the same standards of behavior as an ordinary person.
You just cannot get anymore protected class than that. The penultimate Untouchable
When the Ghettopotamus stumbles, people die.
It’s not just “a” photo.
It’s every picture she’s in, she’s the only one not masked.
The typical elitist mentality that rules are for the little people and she is above that because she is “speshul”.
My main concern is that Kemp and Perdue will get into a mud-slinging primary campaign that will turn off the supporters of whoever loses, resulting in an Abrams victory in the general election. It almost happened in the 2018 election. And before anyone replies that there is no difference between Kemp and Abrams, nothing could be further from the truth.
Not true. Abrams' criminal vote stealing organization in Fulton and DeKalb counties has not been damaged. there was a bit of publicity, but to the best of my knowledge no one has actually done anything about it.
For one things there’s about 200 lbs diffference.
And that’s before you get to the political differences.
Stalinazi Sorosbot Scaty.
Tubby trouble!!!
LOL

That was a trial run for some of the same fraud that took place in 2020 and 2021.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt having your, soetero appointed, federal judge sister ruling in your favor about anything and everything. But no one says a word about that.
They don’t make a mask large enough to cover that fat loudmouth 🤪
I don’t think Kemp has enough support to sling a darn thing. He literally is, mud, in this state.
The whole Constitutional Carry thing is nothing but him grasping at straws.
Then he announced the Rivian plant, a 100% secret deal, that absolutely no one in the area wants and they’re fighting.
Toss in all the information, provable, that has been coming out about the folks stuffing the drop boxes, with video evidence.
Kemp is down by legitimate double digits. He’s from the Walton County area. Used to travel the state a bit. Not any more.
Still kind of weird that a Republican Incumbent, in a Republican state is about to only serve one term.
No one has been investigated or charged with anything. Favorito just dropped some more evidence, so we all have to wait and see where that goes, if anywhere.
But the new law does do some stuff.
And now Miller, who I believe signed the amicus brief against Favorito’s original lawsuit, is now all about getting rid of Mail In Voting and Drop Boxes.
Raffensberger had commercials running for about a week or two, but they’re gone and he knows he’s toast. Burt Jones will more than likely crush Miller.
And Mike Collins, a trucking company owner, is about to trounce everyone.
The RINO/Piedmont Driving Club/Reynolds Plantation/St Simon’s/UGA Frat Boy Republican might be going the way of the dodo in this state. I hope so.
Get rid of them and the $800million in tax breaks to Hollywood and this state just might get back on track. Too much corruption and secret dealings.
“In her first high-profile stumble of this campaign”
NBC is saying that they expect more stumbles. Nice.
Fulton and Dekalb counties are the two major obstacles.
They know they are backing a candidate that looks and acts like one of those who ends up on YouTube for tearing up a McDonalds or Quik-E-Mart...
Karma, man.
It wasn't just "a" picture. She was unmasked the whole time there and there were multiple pictures of her taken during the political visit.
