A mom is mystifying TikTok after sharing her easy life hack for making homemade popcorn.
The trick, which essentially recreates bagged, store-bought popcorn in just two minutes, comes courtesy of a user named Megan (@mmmorgan20). In her viral clip, she shows how she’s been making her kids homemade popcorn “for years.”
“Homemade popcorn the easy way,” she captioned her video.
Viewers were largely blown away, with many commenting that they’d always assumed there was some sort of “special ingredient” in store-bought popcorn that helped it pop in the bag.
However, as Megan’s video shows, that’s not the case. The mom starts by dumping a few spoonfuls of kernels into her paper bag, then adds butter and sea salt before microwaving the mix for just two minutes.

I’ve used the same cast iron pot for decades.
Now I use coconut oil and Orville’s white corn.
It’s a trap!
Clearly this is sinister disinformation being spread by none other than CORN POP HIMSELF!
Another Kerrygold fan, I see. . 😎
I’ll hack that hack. She doesn’t need to put anything except popcorn in the bag. She wastes a lot of the salt and butter on the bag surface. Put those additions in the bowl you are dumping it in and have fun.
Every once in a while a thread of immense importance pops ip here... This one is of epic proportion.
awwww....now the dream is REALLY dead. 16 year old me was ahead of my time.
Another LifeHack:
You can put water in your freezer and get FREE ice!
No more late night trips to the store for a cold drink.
Sorry for crushing your dreams.☹
(Not really, heh, heh, heh.)
I have never microwaved popcorn without burning it. Look at the instruction, subtract 30 sec or a minute, burn it.
Awful smell stuck in the microwave.
I guess I could calibrate for microwave, but I would burn a lot first.
White trash fire alarm. Just hang it on the wall of your hovel.
So...these viewers don't know what a microwave oven does? It excites water molecules thus heating them.
What is at the center of a popcorn kernel? A bit of water. Water heated while enclosed creates steam. And...Whoopeee! Popcorn. [snort]...Secret Ingredient.
Wait until you hear the popping stop and then turn off the microwave
Now, if I can just find a paper bag...
Heh heh! Had not heard that before.
People have done that since microwave ovens were available.
For years, some of the cooking people on TV and Internet have shown that you can do it with dried corn on the cob, too:

I’ll buy tickets to watch you microwave that
I’m wondering how it would work for kettle corn.
Stovetop trashes my pan, but it’s SO GOOD!
And when you put bread in the toaster, toast comes out!
Tried the experiment in a Pyrex cup just now. Some were popping after 90 seconds, and some not for another three minutes.
In a pan, they all pop in the same minute, come out fluffier, fewer old maids.
But, I didn’t burn them.
