Nathan Chen accepts his very first gold medal after free skate | Winter Olympics 2022 | NBC Sports
Congratulations, Nathan!
Thanks for your great performance, grace and humility.
And for showing respect and gratitude to your country by putting your hand over your heart while the national anthem was played (a rare thing these days).

So happy for him!
Made me cry
Thank you for posting
The poor girl will now spend the rest of her life earning $1.15 an hour working in a Q-tip factory.
Good job!
Loved the respect for our Flag!
I'm a triple klutz when it comes to skating.
What a great story. The son of immigrants to the USA from China, he ends up winning the gold medal for the USA with an outstanding performance in the Olympics in China.
Absolutely. Such a contrast to a lot of athletes these days.
:)
I agree.
I agree.
He’s done it now. The left will try to cancel him. He’s a Nationalist...the worst.
Yes, an amazing "American dream" story.
From what I have observed, most (not all) Chinese immigrants really value their U.S. citizenship. No DACA for them.
They make sure their kids are properly documented with passports, visas and have done all the necessary protocols before they leave the country and come back. (None of that "I lived in the U.S. for 18 years and just 'forgot' to do the paperwork" baloney.)
I haven’t been watching the Olympics, but last night, my husband fell asleep watching TV, and our puppy changed the channels when she stepped on the remote, and I walked into the room as Chen was performing. Beautiful job, the audience loved it, and he seemed to really enjoy himself.
Yes, it was really worth watching.
our puppy changed the channels when she stepped on the remote
Smart puppy. She must be a fan too.
Good to see this young man with a winning smile, a humble attitude, saluting our flag. He’s a winner and he made a lot of Americans proud of him and their country.
I did not see Nathan’s ceremony on TV, but after seeing this thread I watched it on You Tube. :-)
I did happen to turn on our TV just in time to happen to catch Chloe Kim’s ceremony, and she had her hand over her heart during the anthem too.
Good for these young people!
Loved it and I’ve learned since that quite of the few of the skaters have storied family histories regarding their escape from China. Alyssa Liu’s dad partook in the Tiananmen Square protests in ‘89 and in the 2018 Olympics, Nathan Chen paid musical tribute with his routine to a documentary movie about a dancer who defected from Mao’s China.
Wow.
Thanks for sharing.
I also saw Nathan's touching tribute to his mother and what she had to sacrifice--just about everything--to help him achieve his dreams.
(They lived in Salt Lake City, and mom drove him to Los Angeles on weekends for training. They were financially strapped, so the coach agreed to accept whatever they could afford to pay.)
Nathan was full of gratitude for what others had done for him. (Such a contrast to some of our athletes who just whine, bash the U.S., and feel entitled to everything.)
