I’m writing from jail… but that’s okay. I’ve been in jail before.
In 2021, I served two stints in Facebook’s Cell Block H, once for posting about the likely origin of Covid-19 in Wuhan and the fact that masks and lockdowns did far more damage than help… and once for sharing a meme complimentary of Kyle Rittenhouse’s volunteer work in scrubbing graffiti off walls in Kenosha. Thirty days each.
But my current stint came as a surprise to me.
On Sunday, I posted a humorous one-stanza poem by Hilaire Belloc, the great English author and member of Parliament. The title is “Epitaph on the Politician Himself,” and it describes how sad the author is at seeing a corrupt politician die of natural causes, when he clearly should have been hanged after conviction for corruption.
A friend asked for clarification on its meaning – not unusual with poetry – and I answered the question. Within seconds my account was restricted, and I received the all-too-familiar notice of a 30-day suspension from the megalomaniacs of Menlo Park.
There wasn’t time for someone to report it, or for a human being to review it. This was an act of Facebook’s famous Artificial Intelligence, known to its users as the Algorithm, or the Bot, or Blinky’s Minions.
The system registered a reference to hanging and shut down the user who posted it. Immediately.
There was no recognition that this was a literary discussion, analyzing a century-old poem by an English parliamentarian. The system has no way of distinguishing between a call for suicide or lynching, and a call for legitimate capital punishment following a conviction. The system has no way of telling whether I was calling for it, or someone else was calling for it, or even, as in this case,

got off Facebook two years ago. don’t regret it for one second
Solution?
Simple.
Quit using fascistbook.
It’s been about that long for me, too.
I always used to get a kick out of Facebook when they asked me what on my mind is. My answer always was that it is none of their business. They obviously didn't like the answer because when I went there one time I noticed someone of them had reprimanded me. LOL
For anyone who remains with Facebook, look up the definition of lickspittle.
can’t wait for Trump social media thing to start.
face book is not just a place for posting pix of the dog. It’s an amazing invention, created to make its users relax and feel at ease, and to express themselves freely. Then the real purpose of FB comes into play: to identify dissenters and to knock them down. Now they know who questions the vax and who thinks masks are stupid. You’re in their database.
Hey Kaslin. You’re a long time member and this is no personal attack on you or your contributions here.
I did notice something about your post though and I want to use it as an example.
I dropped Facebook 7 years ago. Since then I’ve lost all of my “friends” and even my relatives. My parents were all that was left.
The Facebook conversations ALL follow a pattern. Someone starts by mentioning a psychological crime, insult or leftist behavior on Facebook then people mention that they left, and everyone who values freedom and decency should leave too. Then people enter talking about how much they don’t like it “.. but use it to talk to friends and family” so they use it.
Please understand that Facebook is an addiction and it’s users will find justification around every corner to be there.
Also realize that leaving will lead to withdrawal. Staying free from it takes effort and the support of people around you.
If you leave other addicts will ostracize you.
You will say “oh, it doesn’t affect me” and think that you’re somehow immune.
It is the work of our enemy. When you load it you give comfort to that enemy. They want you there even if you speak ill of their leftist ways. The farmer knows that a particular cow might hate him. And he may hate that particular cow. The cow is still loaded into the slaughterhouse all the same.
Hang Facebook! Um, after a swift but fair trial, of course...
btt
Good one!
Nailed it. Well stated.
Why do these people keep using it? Why?!
Correct! It is like if you don’t want to get a speeding ticket. Don’t speed.
“Hang Facebook! Um, after a swift but fair trial, of course...”
We can say that. But we need to realize that under the Biden Doctrine, that no Amendment is absolute, we ourselves can be hanged — or drawn and quartered — with no trial at all.
I was friends with John DiLeo for years before Face Book permanently shut down my account.
I have myself been sentenced to FB Jail I think 8 times since May 2021. That is 30 day sentences. Two of those sentences were rescinded because no person actually ever even read what I posted. I am in FB Jail right now. I laugh at it.
The best thing about FB is that I got to reconnect with a few Army friends from 40 years ago. I love those guys. My Army days are more important to me now than they were, well back in those days.
Mostly I use Gab now, but I may use the new Trump platform though I have not really decided yet.
I have never signed up with Facebook. I had thought about it but then I noticed that it was invasive on all the sites I was going to. Like JC Penneys. They had a contest for some really nice prizes but you had to enter the contest through Facebook. I thought, heck no, I am not signing up for some social media site just to enter a contest. Then it was “Like this site”, “Like this store”, “Like this person or this blog”. Nope, was not going to do it and so never signed up for it. I hate Facebook and Twitter. Never signed up for Twitter either.
I was on Facebook for awhile over 10 years ago. It was very invasive. I would get friend requests from people I really did not want to reconnect with. One was a guy I knew from college. Before accepting the request, I looked at his profile. Among his favorite TV shows he listed "Rachel Maddow". I get that leftards watch her, but listing it as a favorite show? The Facebook app itself wanted to know what high school I attended. If I had told them the app would have shared my info with yet more people I didn't need to see.
When I heard that employers and prospective employers were starting to monitor Facebook pages I decided to nuke my account. Like you, I see contests where you can win something if you will "like" them on Facebook. I just move on when I see those. I signed up for Twitter when Rush was giving away Mac computers or iPads or something if you would retweet one of his tweets. I did that, but almost never used the app. The only time I did was to vote in the Astros' Twitter polls during their games (back when I watched sports). The polls were meaningless, like "which Astro has been the team MVP so far this year", etc. After they kicked Trump off I nuked my Twitter account.
I get a kick posting conservative stuff on FB. John DiLeo is one of my FB friends. Good column from him. And so far I’ve never been put in FB jail. I guess I’m not working hard enough.
