Toxicologist testifies that drugs did not kill George Floyd

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A toxicologist testified Wednesday at the federal trial of three former officers charged with violating George Floyd’s civil rights that it wasn’t drug use, heart disease nor an agitated state known as “excited delirium” that caused Floyd’s death after officers pinned him to the pavement in May 2020.

Dr. Vik Bebarta, an emergency physician and toxicologist and professor at the University of Colorado in suburban Denver, bolstered the prosecution’s contention that Floyd died because of how Officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee down on the Black man’s neck.

Bebarta said he concluded that Floyd “died from a lack of oxygen to his brain” and that he had suffocated because his airway had been closed off. That was consistent with testimony from a lung specialist who said that Floyd could have been saved if officers had moved him into a position to breathe more easily.

Bebarta said Floyd did not die from the low levels of fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system, nor from his heart disease and high blood pressure. He said that on video from inside a convenience store before his fatal encounter with police, Floyd did not appear to be seriously intoxicated or experiencing an overdose. But he did not dispute a store clerk’s earlier testimony that Floyd seemed high.

“He was awake, walking communicating, walking quickly at times,” Bebarta said.

Both prosecutor Manda Sertich and Thao’s attorney, Robert Paule, questioned the doctor about the disputed condition of excited delirium. Bebarta said Floyd did not display any symptoms that doctors typically associate with the condition, such as high pain tolerance, superhuman strength and endurance. He said he’s probably seen at least 1,000 such patients over the years.

“He did not die from what would be referred to as excited delirium,” Bebarta testified.

It would have been damned inconvenient if he’d told the truth, wouldn’t it?

The coroner's report was posted in a link here on this forum shortly after Floyd's death. I actually bothered to read it.

Even the leftist Wikipedia version (edited by PC leftists) indicates drug overdose was a major contributing factor. Even now.

When you OD on Fentanyl you are often still conscious when you stop breathing. Unlike good old fashioned heroin where you are usually unconscious before you stop breathing.

Not a chance in the world they are found not guilty.

I'm just not going to believe the toxicologist, or any other doctor, or journalist, or politician, or school teacher, or social worker, or bureaucrat, or lawyer, or police person, without seeing convincing evidence that I can find credibility.

For the next 100 years, none of the above will have any credibility.

At this point, what possible difference does it make?

They just can’t leave it alone.

What did the family get from gfm? $32 million?

What did they get from the settlement?

The crud is worth more dead than alive. The family should be grateful he died.

A little off topic, but Mark Cuban recently purchased the town of Mustang, about 70 miles south of Dallas on I-45.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban buys an entire — virtually empty — Texas town

I thought about starting the rumor Cuban was going to convert the entire 100 acres into a George Floyd them park with rides and a 100 foot tall statue in Floyd's honor. That would surely stir up the people of nearby Corsicana.

Based on the autopsy report Floyd’s lungs weighed much more than the max weight for male lungs. They were fluid filled.

The autopsy also found there was no damage to the throat musculature. IOW, Floyd could breathe but his blood was not being oxygenated. He probably felt like he was suffocating when he was drowning in his own fluids.

Looks like someone did a piss poor job of cross examination.

This doctor is an expert witness. The first question must be: Who is paying him to testify?

As an employee of State at the University of Colorado, Dr. Vik Bebarta's testimony is somewhere between suspect and worthless.

If you’d read the autopsy report, you wouldn’t think that.

At worse, Chuavin should have been charged with involuntary manslaughter depending on whether he had medical training to recognize Floyd was having a medical emergency.

Aren't all expert witnesses paid? By one side or the other?

I read the report. Floyd’s lung’s weighed more than the max for male lungs. They were filled with fluid from the report. He was drowning in hos own juices.

Why in the world would a knee in that position look like it was on his neck from another angle? Because the knee not being on his neck basically takes Chauvin right out of it.
