Not Just CNN: Mainstream Media Is on the Ropes
The Epoch Times ^ | February 8, 2022 | Roger Simon

I’m beginning to sense something many of us have dreamed about since the beginning of this century—the serious decline of the mainstream media.

Dare I say a tipping point has come, that the witch is dead? Not quite, but she’s clearly stumbling around on her broomstick, wondering what to do next.

I’m not just talking about NBC’s pathetic coverage of the Beijing Olympics that nobody is watching, though that’s an indication.

Nor am I talking about the well-known polling that rates the media’s popularity somewhere below Congress, if such a thing were possible. That’s been going on for a while.

It’s more.

Let’s take a tour d’horizon, but first… CNN.

A widely discussed article by media critic Joe Concha concludes:

“The collapse of CNN is now complete: 9 out of 10 viewers, gone. Its top-rated anchor, Chris Cuomo, gone. Its network president, gone. Its integrity in shambles.

“Oh, and new management coming in that is signaling big-time changes … changes that may bring CNN back to the proud network it once was before [network President] Jeff Zucker destroyed it.”

I’m sure that CNN Plus will not be the answer. Selling more of what people won’t watch for free! Lol. The audience is not crying out for more Don Lemon at any price.

Zuckers cozy relationship with both Cuomos is the real story here.

He and Fredo were helping the Gov craft and message his press conferences during COVID, one should assume that includes the narrative about the nursing homes.

Stop! This sounds so much like the days of freepers dancing over the “dying” “dinosaur media”. That media has kicked our arses so hard we have to lay down to take a crap.

IF they were smart....

I would completely revamp CNN as “straight” news. Flush ALL of the legacy CNN people.

Then, I would shove ALL of the legacy CNN people over to CNN+. So that may drag the hard core CNN viewers over to that platform.

Essentially CNN becomes a Down the middle “news” provider. While CNN+ has all the old faces and continues their MSNBC, all Trump/ Covid all the time leftist fear propaganda. It may give their legacy people enpugh time to run out their contracts.

CNN isn’t in the news business, they are in the ratings business. They need to rethink that and figure out how to get back to the news AND get ratings. I think if they stop the lying ad inserting their leftist activism they would get substantially higher ratings.

The last time I watched CNN was when I was captive in an airport terminal. They had a feature story on about the miserable life of an illegal alien. But I couldn't help but notice that every featured illegal alien was driving a car only a couple of years old, had the latest cell phone and was dressed in designer fashion.

The producers of the documentary evidently did not notice these little details because, I suppose, such things were standard in their little bubble.

Never gonna happen... at least-not until the AP is kaput. How it ever got to be the main ‘news broker’ is beyond me. It’s like OPEC but 100 times worse. But it needs to die and soon!

“The only reason many still have cable is internet”

And the streaming services.

I think there will always be a place for buried cable (fiber).

I agree. After this last election, nothing is “on the ropes”, anymore.

It’s the gaslight media, not the mainstream media.

Viewership doesn’t matter much in fascist nations. The federal government will keep them all afloat with taxpayer $$$

You are right, that would be the smart plan. I’m not sure how they would implement it given the nature of the people in that industry. I think that we can count on them not doing the smart thing.
