The North Carolina elections board said in a court filing Monday it has the power to bar Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) from running for office over his actions leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
“The State does not judge the qualifications of the elected members of the U.S. House of Representative. It polices candidate qualifications prior to the elections,” the board wrote in a filing to dismiss a lawsuit brought on by Cawthorn.
“In doing so, as indicated above, States have long enforced age and residency requirements, without question and with very few if any legal challenges. The State has the same authority to police which candidates should or should not be disqualified per Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment,” the board added.
Cawthorn filed a lawsuit after a group of liberal activists began attempting to get him barred from office due to what they say were disqualifying actions leading up to the Capitol riot.
Leading up to the riot, Cawthorn repeated former President Trump’s false election fraud claims and spoke at a rally hours before the riot began. Opponents of Cawthorn are saying he engaged in the insurrection which disqualifies him from office because it violates the 14th amendment of the Constitution.
“Running for office is not only a great privilege, it is a right protected under the Constitution,” Cawthorn said when filing his lawsuit. “I love this country and have never engaged in, or would ever engage in, an insurrection against the United States. Regardless of this fact, the Disqualification clause and North Carolina’s Challenge Statute is being used as a weapon by liberal Democrats to attempt to defeat our democracy by having state bureaucrats, rather than the People, choose who will represent North Carolina in Congress.”

Did the state of North Carolina check the natural born citizen status of Obama or Harris?
This is a pretty stupid position . . . guilt by proclamation.
None of the states checked Obama, they should have because Nancy only certified him as a natural born citizen to Hawaii.
The other 49 states the document left that out.
What the January 6th lies are all about: stopping certain conservatives from running for office. Especially the main guy.

I mean, what kind of administration authorizes millions for people to freely shoot up drugs? Even Bill Clinton wouldn’t do this.

And even if they did, what difference would it make?
So, in short... the North Carolina Elections Board is considering staging an insurrection.

For both sides of the aisle, The Party trumps everything. Kinda like in the old USSR. Only there, there was only one Party. A pox on both of their houses.
If they want to use the Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment in this manner (which is obviously a stretch), they should look at people like Harris who raised money for BLM/Antifa rioters, all Democrats who encouraged riots, all who encouraged or engaged in illegal actions against Trump...
Just curious, has Rep. Madison Cawthorn been accused of and found guilty of ‘insurrection’ by any court? Has Congress passed a Bill of Attainder to that effect? (Yes, I know that Congress is forbidden to pass Bills of Attainder, but who cares?) Has the North Carolina Board of Elections declared him an insurrectionist?
What they may have found is “the last straw”.

That’s what Impeachment was all about - preventing next time. The GOP didn’t call Hunter and Joe’s bros and blow it out of the water, but if they had, you wouldn’t see another Impeachment in your Lifetime. There was simply no downside when one side doesn’t attack.
