Following meeting with Russian leader, French president says ‘upcoming days will be crucial,’ it’s Europe’s duty to find diplomatic solution and rebuild ties with Moscow
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Diplomatic efforts to defuse the tensions around Ukraine continued on Tuesday with French President Emmanuel Macron expected in Kyiv the day after hours of talks with the Russian leader in Moscow yielded no apparent breakthroughs.
Macron is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as fears of a possible Russian invasion mount. Moscow has massed over 100,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders, but insists it has no plans to attack Ukraine. The Kremlin has demanded guarantees from the West that NATO will not accept Ukraine and other former Soviet nations as members, halt weapon deployments there and roll back its forces from Eastern Europe — demands the US and NATO reject as nonstarters.
Western leaders in recent weeks have engaged in high-level diplomacy in the hope of de-escalating the tensions and preventing an attack.

It’s political theater and every player benefits 🙄 on both the Russian side and the Western side.
Kiev.
Copy past the title...kyiv
I’m seeing Kyiv everywhere. When did it change from Kiev and why?
Pourquoi!
Mourir pour Ukraine?
Going to deliver the news that Ukraine is not coming to NATO after all, if I had to guess.
Kyiv is how its spelled in Ukrainian language and its usage started in 2014 after the elected President was ousted. One of the first things the new regime did was pass laws mandating Ukrainian language usage only in all official communications, even though roughly half the country speaks Russian.
No wonder the eastern potion of the country wants nothing to do with the fascists in Kiev.
Notice how Biden has been take out of the picture?
My best *guess*. Ground is said to freeze in Feb. 15 and remain so till the end of March. So that says the deadline is 1 week away.
In any negotiation of any substance the deal doesn’t get done till the last minute as each side has an incentive to draw things out to hopefully strengthen their leverage.
I think a deal will be struck, each side will one the one hand claim victory but on the other hand walk away from the table with half of what they originally claimed they wanted.
And Macron will ride his diplomatic triumph to a new term in the upcoming presidential election and be talked about as a Nobel Piece Prize candidate.
Where do you get it? The ground is stone-solid by mid-November.
Various things I’ve seen. Can’t remember where.
Also, it is not 1941. There are roads nowadays.
