Rand Paul is on television – but not in Lexington or Louisville.
Kentucky’s junior senator is splashing onto screens in Ohio, as the star of a new commercial on behalf of Mike Gibbons, an investment banker running in a competitive Republican U.S. Senate primary in the neighboring border state.
In the ad, which began airing statewide in Ohio this week, Paul zones in on the issue that’s consumed much of his energy over the last year: Dr. Anthony Fauci.
“I’ve stood strong against the mandates of Dr. Fauci, but I need help,” Paul says straight into the camera. “I know Mike Gibbons will join me in demanding that Fauci is immediately fired and removed from office.”
Paul first endorsed Gibbons in his unsuccessful 2018 U.S. Senate run. Gibbons finished second in that GOP primary race for the chance to take on Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.
This time, he’s campaigning for the opportunity to carry the Republican banner for an open seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Rob Portman.
“I think he’s a strong enough personality, successful in his own right, that he won’t feel like he comes to Washington and is just going to do what he’s told,” Paul said, explaining his support.
Polls have shown a muddled picture of four main candidates who could still emerge victorious in the Buckeye State’s May 3 primary. Paul is expected to return to the state in the coming weeks to rally for Gibbons, who has already loaned his campaign $11.4 million in personal funds.

We’ve got the most viable Conservative candidate possible in Josh Mandel. Go home Rand Paul. Quit muddying up the Ohio race.
I’m in Ohio and you read my mind. Being bombarded with De Wine commercials and will gladly look at Gibbons.
Sadly, Josh Mandel is tainted goods because of an affair and a payoff. J.D. Vance is a total phony and the others are RINOs, too. Gibbons looks like he could save this race for us, so he’s definitely worth a look.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, as I’m not in OH. But I’m curious as to why you see Vance as a phony. Admittedly, I know next to nothing about Vance, but Tucker Carlson seems to have him on as a guest fairly often, and I’ve generally liked his comments.
Nope, Gibbons for Senate.
Absolutely... Gibbons is my choice.
I’m with you. Mandel has lost a couple times. I like what I’ve seen in Gibbons. He reminds me of Trump.
I’m in Ohio and voting Vance. He is a more modern, hybrid, maybe libertarian type guy. Times have changed. I don’t really feel Republican anymore anyway. Just anti communist.
Vance voted for Hilary Clinton. What makes you think he wouldn’t join with the Dems in the Senate?
Rand ... I don’t support disaster relief unless it’s for Kentucky ... Paul. This guy needs to go away.
Watch the movie “Hillbilly Elegy”. It’s the supposed J.D. Vance autobiography. It makes southerners look stupid and incapable of learning, except Vance of course. He saves the family. Any doubt that he is honest disappears when you know he sold out to Hollywood.
Don't know about the accuracy of the movie, but I read the book and yes, it does make everyone except Vance look like an idiot. Leftists loved it... the Atlantic gave it high praise. I think Vance is a fake conservative.
My friends it doesn’t cost Paul anything to back Gibbons in the primary. If he wins then there’s Ryan in November, the rats top choice. Pick the one that can beat Ryan. I don’t think it’s Gibbons. No time to gamble and if the GOP keeps the seat Ohio republicans will have to be vigilant for 6 years. They have not been that way regarding Thune or Rounds. If Ohio nominates Vance 6 years is what I’m talking about.
Vance and Masters(AZ.) appear to be a package deal. Peter Thiel disciples- worth the gamble. Both are book writers and it’s there for all to see.
Vance has absolutely ZERO experience in elective office. Hasn’t even held a seat on a school board. McConnell (or whichever RINO replaces him) will own him, lock, stock, and barrel. Big talker, but he’ll be a lockstep RINO if he gets elected.
*I’ll add to that I hope to see Dr Oz win his bid for the US Senate seat in Pennsylvania./True, he’s not in full agreement with the Republican playbook, but he is still a favorable choice. Dr.Oz has the patina of Trustworthiness all over him.
No one’s perfect but he has charisma and gets listened to. Not bad advantages to start your political career with./A favorable choice for GOP? Pro-abortion?
He can win. Abortion is a non issue in that race except among freepers.
You folks(that means we) need to use your heads more.
Probably worth a look given the cards we’re being dealt. But I always thoroughly scrutinize any candidate that the Paulbot wing of the GOP starts touting.
The border and immigration enforcement are the most important issues.
Portman was a Bush League Republican.
We have too many, we do not need to elect another open borders/amnesty Senator.
Two Amnesty Senators are up in 2022.
Hoeven and Rubio.
Re-electing them is just retarded unless you want to give away your country.
Accurate summary of that dumpster fire movie (disclaimer: I haven't read the book or noticed any so-called "conservative message" in his autobiographical story).
I remember that "Muslim version of The Cosby Show" joke on The Daily Show where someone suggested adding an extra character: a wackjob 'extremist Uncle Rahim' in the basement building bombs, that the "mainstream" Muslim family covers for ("we can stop Muslim stereotypes by PERPETUATING Muslim stereotypes!") and Vance pretty much attempts the same "message" with poor rural whites.
Worse, pretty much this guy's entire "fame" comes from writing a book that was turned into a Razzie-award winning movie.
I find it ironic that a lifelong guy from OHIO is known for a book about "southern hillbillies" though. Faux "southern rebel" Kid Rock probably has more "hillbilly" cred than J.D. Vance.
Slight correct on the above thread though: Vance didn't vote for the Hilderbeast, he voted for Egg McMuffin. Still, that might be even dumber than voting for Hilderbeast!
