Difficulties in obtaining semiconductor chips will prompt Ford Motor to temporarily halt or scale back auto production at eight plants in North America, the company said Friday, according to reports.
The announcement by the major U.S. automaker – set to take effect next week -- continued a series of supply-chain setbacks that have affected the nation’s economy in recent months.
Ford had warned Thursday that a lack of chip availability would likely hurt production in the company’s current financial quarter, Reuters reported.

Are these the guys that ruined their relationship with me by going all in on stupid electric vehicles?
Or no?
No more sedans, just trucks?
Not that I’ve ever even owned a Ford but when they and gm got in bed with obama I wrote ‘em both off.
Before that I owned 7 gm vehicles in a row and was relatively happy with the quality and workmanship.
No more.
Ford was the one that DID NOT take an Obozo bailout but relied on a huge line of credit to survive. All extensively discussed here at the time.
You’re letting facts creep in here.
Is that still allowed on FR?
Which is an irrelevancy to the problem that chip manufacturing was offshored to China.
Any shortages of chips for the electric cars?
Actually no, they did not take any bailout money.
this just increases the value of my 1988 f250 xlt extended cab with the fuel efficient fuel injected 460 v8...
Added to which, it did hurt that with every Ford I bought, I was indirectly giving $ to the UAW, thus giving support to the Dems.
Now, I'm a Happy Honda owner, and my Honda was assembled in the USA (Georgia, IIRC), by non-union workers.
As an aside, I do wonder about the alleged "chip" shortage. My suspicious side would like to see a thorough investigation to rule out any intentional slow-walking.
President Trump warned those fascist corporate fools about the stupidity of offshoring and the risk to America’s supply chain. Did they listen? No.
Schadenfreude.
You are correct thanks for pointing that out....the other reason I did not mention is the collective bargaining unit piece.
Never been a big fan of unions.
Yeah I also think the chip thing MIGHT be just a reason to artificially inflate prices.....which I doubt will ever drop even if the “chip shortage” is solved.
👍👍
Correct... FORD did not take the Obama bailout.
I had bought a new ford at that time just because they DIDN’T take the bailout money
oh well, ford bought into the “outside of the US chip manufacturing” program.
Correct. Many of the dealerships sold "Built Without Your Tax Dollars" t-shirts at the parts & accessories counters back then.
