Damning internal emails sent by members of the New York Times editorial board were made public today during the libel trial brought by Sarah Palin against the newspaper.

The emails were introduced by Palin's lawyer Shane Vogt as he questioned Elizabeth Williamson, a journalist with the editorial section of the Times who wrote the first draft of the article.

In a message shown to the jury, Jesse Wegman, a member of the NYT editorial board, wrote that he worried the opinion piece that Palin sued over looked like they were trying to 'sneak in' a link between her and the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

Any thing put into a computer is forever.

Even if the witnesses/jurors are hard core communist demon rats?

If this is true it may already meet the standard of NYT v. Sullivan.

I think she has them nailed for malice. The problem is where this is being tried. However..everyday jurors may just be fed up with what is happening in New York. Hopefully one lives near a store that just got looted with no repercussions

That night at 9.32pm Wegman emailed Williamson that the article was ‘superb’ and ‘perfectly tuned’.

He wrote: ‘My anger about US gun culture is so intense that I can’t be calm’.

_—————————————

Ha ha! Too bad, Mr. Wegman. Your irrational anger over an inanimate object and agenda-driven lies are probably going to cost you. Shouldn’t remained calm...or at least sane.

It’s a case that, on its merits, could go either way. But I doubt that a New York jury will side with Palin for the same reason that the Times wrote the article: political bias.

Bennett said: ‘We may have relied too heavily on our earlier editorials and other early coverage of the attack’.

Hoisted by your own petard. Love it.

"In court today Palin wore a hot pink blazer, black pants and a black N-95 mask.

This is very damning of her. She's guilty for sure. /s

Man, if anyone deserves to win a defamation suit, it’s Governor Palin. Good luck to her.

I hope that she knows that regardless of compelling the evidence she produces is it won't take this New York City jury more than 10 minutes to find in favor of the NY Slimes.

Somehow I don’t see Palin being vindicated by a NYC jury.

Wonder why venue wasn’t somewhere else, like Alaska.

I hope she takes them for 10 million or so and then runs for Senator in Alaska.

LOL! I looked Gov Palin up just to see what she has been doing lately and found she is divorced.

I told Mr K (not the one on this forum). He sat in contemplation for a moment, then said: “I’m going to have to give her a call, then.”

I answered: “I’ll fight you for her.”
