Pence should had simply declined his ceremonial role and handed the task to Patrick Leahy, the president pro tempore of the Senate. No need for Pence to play his role as an “useful idiot”.
Pence is wrong.
He had an obligation to verify the results.
Just as VP Cheney failed for verify Obama’s bona fides as a citizen eligible to assume the office.
What? Ridiculous analogy.
“When did Trump say Pence could have overturned ? “
Exactly. I saw that propaganda the second I read the headline.
I don't think he did either, but I don't think that's the right statement (See Tagline). I think Pence did have the right to acknowledge the irregularities brought up by Senator(s) and call for a real investigation.
That’swhat Trump SAID in his speech and in print last week.
It’s what Pence is responding to, disingenuously.
"What they are saying, is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away. Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power, he could have overturned the Election!" (End quote)
Pence had no choice. They were debating the challenge to the Arizona vote when the riot broke out. After Congress reconvened the finished the debate and voted down the Arizona challenge and an challenge to Pennsylvania. Challenges to a couple of other states failed when no senator joined in on filing.
True. By this point there is no way Pence can change his story.
Pence had a duty to ensure the process was followed before signing off on it.
He FAILED.
My wife says he’s a 2024 Democrat contender.
Mike Pence is a lot of things. Viable presidential contender isn’t one of them.
No one said anything about throwing out certified electors. Only to allow time to investigate concerns raised. Instead Pence allowed a questionable election result to pass. The resulting problems are all on him. If anyone thinks Pence has a snowballs chance in **** to ever be President, has lost their mind. He was a loser before the election mess.
Where does it say in the Constitution, or Federal Law, that the VP can send electoral ballots back to the state legislatures?
Congress has the power to reject any or all electoral ballots, not the VP.
For those that are saying the VP can reject elecotral ballots, keep in minde that Heels Up Harris will be presiding over the electoral process in Congress in Jan ‘25. You better hope the VP doesn’t have the power to select which electoral ballots to keep and which to send back.
And another thing... do we think for a minute that if the shoe had been on the other foot and it had been Zero/Brandon as incumbents and all the election integrity shenanigans had gone on in the name of Covid that gave their opponent the edge, that Brandon wouldn’t have declined as VP to certify the election?! Heck no, he wouldn’t have! It would have been sent back to the States faster than you could say “rats always stick together”!
Hemingway was plagiarizing Shakespeare.
“Cowards die many times before their deaths. The valiant never taste of death but once.”
The VP alone probably doesn’t have that power. But a successful Senate vote could have been part of the process. Unfortunately the RINOs prevailed.
Congress was voting on this before the “riots” interrupted the procedures which only benefitted Dems and people like Romney. Pence could have allowed the time requested to have the concerns reviewed. It wasn’t throwing out certified electors.
Pence, you were only supposed to officiate the counting of uncontested delegates.
So, you weren’t overturning an election, because that wasn’t your duty, but a proper count would have changed the electoral count.
Mike, you need a brain and spine transplant.
