A farmer who wrecked a car parked on his land with a tractor has been cleared of criminal damage after he successfully used the 400-year-old legal principle that “an Englishman’s home is his castle”.
Robert Hooper, 57, became an internet sensation in June last year, when a video of him using the spikes on his telehandler to flip a £16,000 Vauxhall Corsa went viral on social media.
The hill farmer from Upper Teesdale said he had been forced to take action after he came under attack from a "strutting and agitated" shirtless youth, who had refused to move the car from his land.
Mr Hooper said he did not call police because he had been burgled eight times and found they were often slow to respond.

GET OFF MY LAWN!😂
The real crime was ever owning a Vauxhall.
Some states in the US supposedly have similar protect your castle laws.
I am actually surprised at this ruling as many courts in England have forgotten about this precident.
(most likely the farmer was the judge drink at the same pub)
I once talked to a guy who said he did the same thing in Michigan. Two people parked in his driveway to attend a car show down the road. When they got back, one car was stacked on top of the other. It’s nice to own a forklift.
Farmer - 1

No need for a Denver boot there!
I love this story.

most likely the farmer and algore was the judge drink at the same pub. lol.
just kidding you algore. Best sentence I’ve read all day.
I hit the bar too early
I remember the video, love it and the outcome.
because this happened in a rural community the jury pool consists of people living in a rural community. Different verdict if the jury pool consisted of city dwellers.
These landowners have guts, and I applaud them! One time I came home from work to find a car parked in my driveway up to the garage door. I parallel parked at the curb blocking it (the only spot available). Wondered who was visiting my house? No one. So I'm eating dinner and a woman knocks on my door, and demands that I move my car. I got in her face asking who the hell parks in a driveway without permission, and told her I would move my car after finishing dinner. I took my time for the next hour, and then moved it, all the while she's fuming inside her car. Wish I had a forklift!
The video at the link is hilarious!! Too bad it doesn’t have sound.
Yes, I wish you had too.
my neighbors guests parked in our driveway overnight ( we were not home) but they blocked a big dumpster that was going to be picked up. I went over to my neighbors in the morning, she said she had no way to get ahold of the kid. I told her he had until 3, or i’d have the car towed.
Surprise! she found him and he showed up, pissed off, claiming he had permission from the neighbors.
I told him his girlfriend did not pay our property taxes so she could shut up.
only if white, otherwise if perp is black your home is also his castle
Id have put the car off my property. Don’t see any reason to wreck it.
Years ago I used to know a farmer and his wife down in rural Virginia that owned land loaded with Civil War relics. They were notorious for being very unfriendly to trespassers. Many people snuck on their land to dig at night and one time they found a car parked on an obscure dirt road within their property. They shot the heck out of the guys car and when he reported it to the local police, they just told him he got what he deserved for trespassing.
About 10 years after the incident I got courage enough to approach them and offer to lease their land so I could dig relics. I paid them and dug there for 5 years and unearthed a small museum worth of Civil War artifacts.
