The new GOP kingmakers: Out with the Kochs, in with Tucker (interesting read)
News.yahoo.com ^ | 2/4/22 | Jonathan Swan

Paths to power and winning elections inside the GOP are changing rapidly and radically, spawning a new generation of kingmakers while diminishing the clout of many who lorded over the party for years.

Why it matters: Fourteen of the Republican Party's top consultants and operatives across the country spoke in detail with Axios about how profoundly primary races have changed since 2014 — the last pre-Donald Trump midterm election and the last midterms in which a Democrat occupied the White House.

What we found: Those sources — whose clients range from as Trumpy as they come to establishment Republicans — described a clear shift in the party's power brokers. They spoke of changes to the ecosystem across four categories: institutional upheaval, endorsements, conservative media and donors.

Axios granted them anonymity so they could speak with a degree of candor that's not possible on the record because of personal and business relationships. Here's what they told us:

Who had the power:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The NRA

The Koch network

Heritage Action

The Drudge Report

National Review

Conservative movement groups such as Tea Party Express, FreedomWorks, and the Senate Conservatives Fund.

Who has power now:

Donald Trump

Tucker Carlson

Family and former aides to Trump

Fox News

Club for Growth

Daily Wire

Breitbart News

Online influencers including Candace Owens, Ben Shapiro, Dan Bongino, Joe Rogan, Jack Posobiec, Charlie Kirk and Marjorie Taylor-Greene.

Steve Bannon

Susan B. Anthony List

Between the lines: Most of these changes weren't gradual. They were triggered by the shockwave of 2016.

Not really thrilled that this came out of yahoo but I still like what it says. It’s going to take an enduring and motivated cadre to unseat the Deep State.

Fox News and Club for Growth are at the very bottom. To call them “Kingmakers” is a stinking joke.

I would put Steven K Bannon right behind Trump as the most influential. Just you wait and see what happens this time next year!

Those Jan 6 investigators are going to be put on trial and convicted by the Grand Chief Inquisitors SKB and MTG. The execution to soon follow.

They were triggered by the shockwave of 2016.

The election of 2020 was a watershed event too. Voters saw the election stolen and that nearly everyone in power and influence went along with it. Media personalities were forced to back down to keep their jobs. Civil rights groups opposed Trump more than the rule of law and integrity of our institutions. Without trust there is no influence.

What they didn’t really go into is, Trump has led a hostile takeover of the Republican Party. The RINO establishment fought him and after stabbing him in the back thought they could get rid of him - only to realize the vast majority of the right of center voting base is with Trump and not them. They know the sword of Damocles is hanging over their heads now. They went too far and now we will no longer hold our noses and support the open borders, free trade, perpetual war country club corporate shills who have run the Republican party since the Bushes came to office.

What happened here is that Trump exploited a giant fissure in the GOP that had been there for years but was never dragged out into the cold light of day until that retarded baboon GWB made it impossible to ignore it.

There is a huge disconnect between the grassroots of the Republican Party and its financial backers. The days when these voters will unquestioningly support the GOP are over. It will be interesting to see how the party’s leadership will deal with that stark reality.

What happened to Tucker? He started out writing for the Weak Lie Standard and generally being a dweeb on Crossfire to a hardcore conservative.

He still can't-and will never be able to- move the needle like Rush could.

Lowry said he sees "an element of wish-fulfillment in some of these attacks" on National Review: "A fringe wants us gone, so they pretend it’s so, when they actually read us as closely as anyone."

LOL National Review is the real fringe, despised by almost all real conservatives as little more than a shill for America-last globalists.

“Jonathan Swan is a Leftist mouthpiece.”

Yes, but it’s interesting to see the articles they write.

Obviously these people vote Democrat, but why would they be concerned what the Republicans do? Because they liked the pantywaist moderates being the prevalent wing of their opposition, because moderate Republicans are easy to defeat, and if they can’t moderates will generally vote with democrats.

You can see their worry in their writings, that they now have REAL opposition, who don’t cower in the corner like a Mitt Romney when they say Boo!

You’ll see the written screams after this November when they right “XX WAS ELECTED!!” “Blank was defeated by XX!!”

They thought they were screaming into the air after Trump was elected. WE ARE NOT DONE!

Trump and Tucker Carlson, etc. have actually demonstrated that we conservatives can stretch out our necks and speak truth to power. We no longer need to cower in silence. That is what it really means. The sleeping lion has awoken.
