Facebook lost daily users for the first time in its 18-year history which CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes was caused by the TikTok boom.
'People have a lot of choices for how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok are growing very quickly,' Zuckerberg said during an earnings call Wednesday, according to the Washington Post.
Facebook reported a drop of nearly 500,000 in daily logins during the last three months of 2021. Zuckerberg reiterated that Meta - the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp - is pushing hard to develop its short-form video Reels in an effort to compete with TikTok.
'This is why our focus on Reels is so important over the long term,' he added.

The whole thing is a joke. I’m genuinely surprised that companies would have any interest in advertising on a platform that has so little transparency about its users.
I thought there were already reels on Instagram. I think they are only in very short segments, though. Maybe the Tik Tok videos last longer.
I hope Twitter and Tiktok are next.

The internet was the wild west when it first started. Zuckerberg and ilk took advantage and started platforms that became successful.Then they decided to restrict content. Great if you are a woke liberal and not so great if you aren’t. Since nothing is being done to break up monopolies they have free rein to destroy any competition. When the only game being played is soccer, many of us are choosing to hit the off button.
A person might open an account. If he's in a band, a separate account for the band, or even for each record. If they're playing at a festival, that has its own account.
A politician might have a personal account, a family account, a VoteSmith16 account, then a Vote Smith18 account, then a VoteSmith20 account, etc.
Every ballot proposition, anywhere in the world, has at least two accounts, for and against. Political parties have accounts. Government offices and departments. And businesses, activist groups, every local cell of an activist group, every local branch of a political party, etc.
This means that X billion accounts doesn't mean X billion actual users.
Adding to the fakeness, dormant accounts are included in stats. Once an election, or music festival is over, or a business is closed, or a school class is no longer taught, or a local sport team disbands, its account remains up.
Of course, accounts, real and fake, are constantly deplatformed. But then new bot accounts crop up.
Wrong.
They have been losing users for a while now. I know a few people who quit them quite a while ago.
Parlor, apparently. Parlor has a Facebook account. And a Twitter page.
I left face book,I got tired of being chastised by snot nosed latte drinking little jerks over true statements. Liberals insulted and lied with impunity. Face book makes money off me, I don’t make money off them. So bye bye.

Anyone who uses Fbook is an aider and abetter of those who want to destroy our traditional American freedoms and values.

If you go back into 2020, you could see younger ‘users’ flipping over to TikTok, and making less use out of Facebook. Same story for WhatsApp users...exiting Facebook as well.
This movement to Meta? It’s the belief that this fantasy-digital world will regather ‘customers/clients’ back to Facebook. There’s little facts to support this belief, and I think by the time you end the 2024 election cycle....there will be enough public anger with the Facebook/Meta community to dissolve another quarter of their business. It’s heading eventually to the MySpace ‘world’.
I hope FB goes the way of Blockbusters.
It sure takes a long time for people to understand nothing is free. I never had a facebook or twitter account and never will. I saw them for what they were decades ago. They are worthless tools that just collect data on you all day long.
But, that is why we call them useful idiots.
