GOP faces divisions over siding with Ukraine against Russia
The Hill via Yahoo ^ | January 31st, 2022 | Unattributed

Republicans are pushing President Biden to be tougher on Russia over its aggression toward Ukraine, but their isolationist far-right flank is denying them unity on the issue.

Some of former President Trump's closest allies have questioned why the U.S. would side with Kyiv over Moscow at all and expressed skepticism that it's worth pouring American resources into the conflict.

Top GOP leaders espousing the party's traditional hawkish views have urged the Biden administration to impose sanctions and bolster Ukraine's military capacity to counter Russia's troop buildup along their shared border in recent weeks after its past invasion of Crimea in 2014.

But Republicans more closely aligned with Trump - who during his presidency at times expressed pro-Russia sentiment - argue that America should stay out of it.

"Despite claims by war hawks on both sides of the aisle, it is not in our national interest to spill American blood and treasure in Ukraine. A nation that cannot effectively secure its own border and protect its own territorial integrity cannot be responsible for doing so for nations in Eastern Europe," said Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.).

The dumb bastards think we're a minority.

We ARE the party and the "war hawks" are on their way out the door whether they like it or not.

Stop the presses!

Assistant Democrats support Democrat president Joe Biden.
Republicans don’t.

Usual fake news from “The Hill”? Yup.
They must be getting desperate. I don’t know even a single conservative who would/would not vote for anyone because of Ukraine. Totally irrelevant.

I read in the UK Daily Mail this morning that GW Bush’s “ethics chief” wants Trump barred from running for President in 2024. Where was Bush’s “ethics chief” when his boss started an aggressive war that killed 7000 of our troops, maimed thousands of others, resulted in the killing of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, wiped out half the Christian population of Iraq, created an ally for Iran, and had no basis in fact?? Aggressive war is just fine, but a few words about possibly pardoning people is a gross ethical breach worthy of being barred from even running for federal office?? No wonder the GOP Establishment is nothing more than a cheap carbon copy of the Dems.

“I don’t know even a single conservative who would/would not vote for anyone because of Ukraine.”

I would not vote for anyone that supports the expansion of NATO to Ukraine. Or anywhere else.

Nor would most conservatives.

If the warmongering globalists in the Republican Party were anything more than a tiny minority of corrupt @ssholes, then Jeb Bush wouldn’t have been less popular than a child molester among GOP primary voters in 2016.

Not even a single real conservative that I know supports your position. Fake "conservatives" yes. Real conservatives no.

Sounds fine to me. Albeit the timing right now may not be great.

"The Hill" is a shill for the Swamp and far to shrill for my ears! What they 'print' comes from the DNC outlets, including the toilets!

We will purge the party of your kind of “real conservatives”.

Or, you can vote with us.

Because we will never, ever vote with you or for your candidates.

Its not “pro Russia sentiment” to point out that the United States has no compelling national interest in Ukraine.

Also, we are not the minority. As we’ve made clear already we are by far the majority of the Republican voting base and this November we’re going to make RINOs all too aware of that fact.

BTW.....the American people agree with us overwhelmingly. There is no reason why we should pour our people’s blood and treasure into any potential conflict in Eastern Ukraine no matter how hard Democrats try to wag the dog and no matter how desperate the Neocons are for another war.

We have no interests whatsoever.

None.

Shut down Keystone, lose energy independence and make Germany look to the new found wealth in Russian oil and purchase it.

Certainly not one dem envisioned this little twist. Or maybe they did...

You and who exactly?
The Stalinist wing of the Bolshevik Party or the paid Soros troll brigade?
You can't actually do sh*t apart from spew empty threats on internet boards while pretending unsuccessfully to be a conservative.

Over my dear body. Not even then.
You were the biggest pusher of lockdowns and vaccine/mask mandates on this site for two years. No conservative is voting with you.

Currently, the USA is a 3rd world country with no moral authority at this point to “intervene” anywhere.

I wouldn’t vote/not vote for someone based solely on this issue. It’s not a deal killer for me candidate wise.

However I am quite surprised at the number of isolationists and russophiles appearing on FR.

I’m in the Churchill, “never again”, camp, whereby I recognize both Russia’s expansionist tendencies and threat to freedom. This is better dealt with earlier than later, when they are weaker, than stronger.

To say we have no interest in what goes down in Ukraine is naive. It ignores the takeover in Georgia and Crimea, as well as a leader that does not tolerate competition who jails and/or assassinates the political opposition.

Russia improved over the Soviet days, but they are heading in that direction again. Reagan beat them down, and they are coming back up.

I support the aspirations of the Ukrainian people. Whether or not I support the Ukraine government I have no idea. Given their corruption and buying off of various US politicians I don’t think so.

What I don’t support are US warmongers of the RINO and marxist kind who want a perpetual state of war and think continuing to poke the Russian bear while risking a nuclear holocaust is a plank for US policy. Even the globalists must see they don’t want nuclear war -that’s a hypothesis, not a statement of cold fact and I actually have no hard evidence in support of it.
