Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) said Sunday on MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports” that Republicans claiming President Joe Biden’s promise to choose a black woman for the Supreme Court is an example of affirmative action is both disrespectful and dishonorable.
Waters said, “For a black woman to become a Supreme Court justice would be one of the most historic and important things this country can do and experience. It is just so exciting to think about it. I guess what is it? Over 260 years, we’ve never even had a black woman nominated. And there are only two black males on the Supreme Court. To have a black woman, there would be a game-changer.”
During The Gallo Radio Show, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) said, “The irony is the Supreme Court is at the very same time hearing cases about this sort of affirmative racial discrimination, and while adding someone who is the beneficiary of this sort of quota, the majority of the court may be saying at large, it’s unconstitutional. We’ll see how that irony works out.”
Waters said, “It’s so disrespectful. The way he’s coming out is outdated. Even the most conservative member of the Supreme Court and Republicans know that it is beyond time to diversify the Supreme Court of America. And the absence of a woman, a black woman, means that it is not diversified. You don’t have at the table the voices of everyone in this country that should be represented.”

That must be why Joe filibustered against on in the last century.
Of course it would be AA. There is no other explanation. If she is the best for the job, fine. If she gets the job for being black it’s AA, and therefore disgraceful.
But what would Biden be but disgraceful?
Concede nothing. All of the names mentioned so far are hacks in black. None are even MINIMALLY qualified.
When the main criteria is the color of one’s skin rather than the content of one’s character, Dr. Martin Luther King could figure out what was going on. Doesn’t look like his dream will ever come true.
“Waters: ‘Disrespectful, Dishonorable’ to Claim Black Female SCOTUS Pick Is Affirmative Action”
We don’t have to claim it. Joe Biden claimed it when he announced the gender and color of the person he would pick BEFORE he announced the name.
Waters can lay it all at the paws of Joe Biden.
The way "they" work is that it is points that make one best for the job. They don't say 'best qualified', just 'best'.
The only question is whether they are going to settle for a two pointer, or whether they are going to go for a three pointer.
Affirmative action hires don’t get much respect for a reason.
Maxine Waters has shot her wad! She doesn’t have any credibility left anymore. She has been so emotional and out of touch, that now when she wants people to hear, it will be deflected. Sorry Maxine, I do like your wig.
She speaks as one who has no knowledge of her words.
And one of them the Democrats rejected.
It may not actually be.
But its clearly racist. And sexist.
And it means that skin color and sex organs are the first two most important qualities for this scotus selection.
Huh?
What an utterly idiotic thing to say. The Congress is the "representative of everyone in the country". The only thing the Supreme Court "represents" is the Constitution of the United States -- the ultimate law of the land -- not the people governed by that law.
A fundamental purpose of the Supreme Court is to determine the Constitutionality of laws passed by Congress, by being the highest court of appeal.
Waters is decades past her "Best If Used By" expiration date.
Bass Mouth needs to put a sock in it.
She really needs to sit down and be quiet.
I think she meant ever. Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas.
Maybe Kagan identifies as a black man?
To pick a black female simply because Biden wants a black female is the very definition of affirmative action.
