Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that former President Donald Trump should not have said he would pardon those charged for the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Saturday during a ‘Save America Rally’ in Texas, Trump said, “If I run and I win, we will treat those people from January 6 fairly. We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons because they are being treated so unfairly.”

I am cheerfully willing to stand corrected if I am mistaken, but it is my understanding that they have not even been formally charged with anything.
Perhaps she heard that according to Daily Mail, the Canadian truckers' Freedom Convoy is being joined by American truckers who are organizing one of their own.
Perhaps she heard that no less a person that Elon Musk is also supporting the Canadian Freedom Convoy. Ergo, how "fringe" or "unacceptable" could it be?
Maybe Susan Collins should pay attention to Steve Bannon next time he says:

In most cases you are correct, and the reason they haven’t been charged is so that they can’t be tried and sentenced.
