Pittsburgh bridge collapses on day Biden to visit city to talk infrastructure
msn ^

Posted on 01/28/2022 5:21:28 AM PST by bryan999

No injuries were immediately reported, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety, which reported a “confirmed bridge collapse” at around 6:50 a.m. A photo from KDKA shows at least four vehicles, including a Port Authority bus, on the bridge near Forbes and Braddock avenues, which splits the Point Breeze, Regent Square and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. Another vehicle is shown dangling near the edge of the collapsed bridge.

Police, fire and EMS personnel are responding to the collapse.

Public Safety said there was “a strong smell of natural gas in the area.” Nearby homes are being evacuated due to the gas smell, according to KDKA.

“Please avoid if at all possible,” the agency tweeted.

The collapse comes the same day that Biden is visiting Pittsburgh to discuss infrastructure. As part of his trip, the president will visit the research and development hub of Mill 19, which was part of the infrastructure deal passed by Congress last year.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment early Friday.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Yeah, it’s the Forbes Avenue bridge. That’s going to be bad.

Totally irresponsible that the bridge wasn’t taken care of to prevent this collapse. The State and local politicians are responsible for the lack of funds for repairs. No excuse for this happening.

Whitehouse cancelled Pittsburgh trip prior to this....over scheduling they said....but likely Biden’s not in form to make the trip.

States are diverting highway funds to welfare social programs and neglecting upkeep.

Mayor Pete will fix this by spending the infrastructure bill on more speed traps.

Leave it up to MSN to add Biden’s formerly cancelled visit into their headline.....Whitehouse cancelled this before the bridge went down.

How many Infrastructure Bills have been passed since 2000? All presidents have passed an Infrastructure bill of some sort, but the money seems that the money only goes to the politicians.

I thought Obama fixed all of these already.

Sock puppet Joe will also make sure to send mobile vaccination stations to both sides of the collapsed bridge. Just to ensure there is ongoing access to shots should anyone on either side need their booster, 2nd booster... Or are we up to 3 now?

OK! Who is the incompetent moron (government worker) in charge of inspecting that bridge?

In my county (Pecos TX) we have a place in a road that has been sinking. My understanding is that Txdot checks it every day to make sure it is safe.

I would check for charges under the bridge supports. Today’s collapse is very convenient.

I use to have to drive through the squirrel hill tunnel to get home. It was always backed up and if it was rush one was in for a long wait. I can’t imagine how bad it will be now.

That’s Pittsburgh’s bridge it is not the United States government’s bridge. If Pittsburgh’s bridge is in bad shape, Pittsburgh needs to fix their bridge.
