According to reporting by Axios last month, McConnell told a room full of donors, lobbyists, and in-cycle senators that he would not be putting forward an agenda outlining the priorities for his conference should Senate Republicans regain a majority in 2022.
In other words, McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it.
What McConnell likely means by “I’ll let you know” is that K Street’s concerns will be satisfied. Wall Street will get what it needs, as will the corporate industry titans, including the Big Tech firms. So will the defense industrial barons, who will find every military adventure they engage in, regardless of merit, fully funded and shielded from criticism, much less debate. He doesn’t have to say it out loud. When the GOP had no stated agenda, this is always the result.
This is not a status quo that can be sustained. Republicans cannot simply rally voters with a promise not to make it worse. Republicans cannot, in other words, do what they have largely always done with a Senate majority: set it on a shelf, polish it, and admire it from afar while checking off a Beltway-driven agenda designed solely to protect incumbents.
The left’s institutions and public health bureaucrats aren’t going to simply stop torturing us because they feel like it. If Senate Republicans cannot find it in them to stand up for their voters now, when the stakes are so perilous and the moment so fraught, then what are they good for?

The last time the Republicans had a clear agenda was prior to the 1994 mid-terms. Newt Gingrich championed the 10 point Contract with America, a conservative plan signed by 300 Republican candidates. It was presented just six weeks before the election. The plan led to GOP control of the U.S. House and Senate for the first time in 40 years.
For the upcoming mid-terms, the Republicans are betting on getting the majority due to the disastrous performance of the Biden Administration and Democrat controlled congress. They see no need to commit to a conservative agenda to get elected.
Here was the Contract with America:
One, balanced budget amendment and line-item veto. It is time to force the government to live within its means and to restore accountability to the budget in Washington.
Two, stop violent criminals. Let us get tough with an effective, believable, and timely death penalty for violent offenders. Let us also reduce crime by building more prisons, making sentences longer, and putting more police on the streets.
Three, welfare reform. The government should encourage people to work, not to have children out of wedlock.
Four, protect our kids. We must strengthen families by giving parents greater control over education, enforcing child support payments, and getting tough on child pornography.
Five, tax cuts for families. Let us make it easier to achieve the American dream, save money, buy a home, and send the kids to college.
Six, strong national defense. We need to ensure a strong national defense by restoring the essential parts of our national security funding.
Seven, raise the senior citizens’ earning limit. We can put an end to government age discrimination that discourages seniors from working if they choose.
Eight, roll back government regulations. Let us slash regulations that strangle small business and let us make it easier for people to invest in order to create jobs and increase wages.
Nine, commonsense legal reform. We can finally stop excessive legal claims, frivolous lawsuits, and overzealous lawyers.
Ten, congressional term limits. Let us replace career politicians with citizen legislators. After all, politics should not be a lifetime job.
Eh. We plan for gop to take senate
When have they ever wanted to be in the majority?
McConnell wants to hang around in the minority
Is he a guy that looks like he wants to assist the American people?
Come on.
Or, it just means that without a veto-proof majority, McConnell and the vast majority of Republicans realize they won’t be able to pass meaningful legislation. So rather than make promises and then get accused of not following through, they’re not making promises they can’t keep period.
they need a Rand Paul to run things for a while and shake some stuff up.
Mitch is awful but his cheerleaders are worse.
1- Drunk on Power?,
2- Blackmailed into maintaining control to do the bidding of their masters?,
3- Too stupid to retire and enjoy their accumulated wealth?,
4- They're in on the One World Gov't plot?
5- They really think they're smarter than everyone else and world just can't live without them?
6- All of the above?
I remember that. The jackals in the media dubbed it Gingrich’s “Contract On America”
I guess the Republicans can kidnap Hunter and Garland’s kids, and hold them hostage until they get what they want from Biden them, but short of that, what can they do, of they take the Senate?
If not for Newt and his crew in 1994, every highway sign in the U.S. today would be in kilometers instead of miles, per an executive order issued by George Bush the first in 1992.
RE: Republicans Plan To Win Back the Senate, Then Do Nothing, Per Usual
Just leave the Trump policies and tax cuts alone.
So yes, if you can do that and not spend anymore money on useless pork like Build Back Worse, it’s better to do nothing.
The thing about the “Contract with America” was that no one knew about it. It got ZERO coverage.
The thing that ushered in the 1994 majority wasn’t that CwA thing. It was the ascendance of Rush Limbaugh as a commentator with millions of listeners pulling the lever as a result.
Even back then, the real power was Media. We need to tackle the MSM, starting with section 230 protection for platforms who are acting like publishers, and yanking FCC licenses from the free MSM that had an original agreement to provide free news content — UNBIASED. Since they broke the agreement, the guvmint yanks their licenses and we start anew with unbiased news.

“… McConnell and McCarthy both need to be replaced.…”
*************************************************
I’m pretty sure both will lose their leadership posts in December after the new Republican Senators get to weigh in on the leadership.
I agree with everything Rachel said in this article although it was a little “too polite” for my tastes considering this country is on the brink just as much because of RINO’s like the corrupt Mitchell and his Chinese wife as we are by the marxist democrats.
If you read the debates on the creation of the Senate they are very enlightening.
James Madison was the proponent of a six year term as it would allow Senators to be protected from short-term pressures.
Quite a few other Founders opposed the idea, worrying that the Senate would become a national aristocracy.
Madison got most things right, but on this one history has proven his opponents correct.
