Germany's defense minister said Germany will send Ukraine 5,000 helmets after it was criticized for not sending the country weapons despite the threat of a Russian invasion.
Christine Lambrecht told Germany's defense committee about the plans on Wednesday, the defense ministry tweeted.
The ministry said Lambrecht "also made it clear that Germany stands closely on the side of" Ukraine.
German officials previously said the country would not send weapons to Ukraine, but that it would send a field hospital.

Germany is totally dependent on Russian gas and they are in practice an ally of Russia. They refused a British request to allow British planes to overfly German territory with military supplies for Ukraine. They’ve obstructed Nato efforts to aid Ukraine. It’s just like the old days, Russia and Germany, together again.
If they send WWII helmets instead of WWI models, hopefully they will remove the…you know.
I take this as a big Let’s go Brandon from our friends in Germany. Why would they want anything to do with WWIII to protect the sanctity of graft in DC.

It’s not a joke to Russia.
V-E day is still widely observed in Russia if that’s what you can call it. Pilgrimages to monuments all over Russia commemorating the dead and the ultimate victory over Nazi Germany are almost mandatory for the populace.
It’s what the US was like in the ‘50s. They haven’t forgotten, and don’t plan to. Any presence of Germans in the Ukraine - either personally or by proxy weapons - will make Russian blood boil. The ethnic German populace in Ukraine especially is widely seen as partly responsible for massive losses in WWII since they initially sided with German invading forces.
Germany is right to tread lightly here. They know it too.
