The anticipated decision Tuesday of former Rep. Mark Walker to abandon his bid for the Republican Senate nomination and instead seek a return to the House from a newly-carved district in North Carolina surprises relatively few observers of Tarheel State politics.
Walker had consistently been running third in most polls, behind former Gov. Pat McCrory and fellow Rep. Ted Budd (who carries the blessing of Donald Trump, the most-sought endorsement for anyone in a contested GOP primary).
The anticipation now is that without Walker, the Trump base among North Carolina Republicans will coalesce around Budd and be a big assist in helping him catch front-runner McCrory.

Does this mean Walker runs in the newly redrawn First District?
Toast
Umm..the 11th?
The 1st is along the coast.
I need Manning out of office...she is a Nazi clone.
McCrory is obviously a Bush League Republican.
We have to stop electing them.
Thom Tillis was just re-elected by NC.
One of the first things he said after winning was we needed to amnesty illegal aliens.
The sickening thing was that I helped Tillis. Not only did I vote for him, I made sure every woman I know heard all about Jody Cunningham and how he had cheated on his wife in their marital bed with another man’s wife...an enlisted man. Two of them specifically told me they were going to vote for Cunningham and had switched to Tillis because of it.
That is the last RINO I ever vote for or help. The RINO’s stabbed us in the back. They were in on the steal. No more holding my nose. To hell with them. They need to be pushed out of the Republican party and out of office.
President Trump is my president, but his worst fault is his HR abilities (in choosing his staff), so I am not entirely convinced in the value of his endorsements.
Picture is from 2012 - was he supposed to appear with Obama and Biden?
That said, he could not win re-election as an incumbent in what was overall a Republican-leaning year in North Carolina...not the best candidate.
Walker and McCrory finally figure out that splitting the squish vote would let a conservative win the Senate primary — and we can’t have that! So no, it won’t help Budd but he still should (better) win.
I looked it up. In the first district there was some shuffling after the Democrat Butterball announced his retirement. The district was redrawn and not 3rd District representative, Republican (MAGA) Dr. Greg Murphy is the only candidate shown as running as a republican at this point.
As a newcomer to that district I don’t know him but what I can glean he seems about right.
He used to be my rep in the 6th...I assume he is coming back here.Maybe not.
