Republicans cannot afford to do what they have largely always done with a Senate majority: set it on a shelf, polish it, and admire it from afar.
The 2022 agenda for House Republicans may be out of touch with the current political moment, but at least they can say they’re trying. Over on the other side of the Capitol, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the leader of the Senate’s Republican conference, has announced he’s not even putting out an agenda for 2022.
According to reporting by Axios last month, McConnell told a room full of donors, lobbyists, and in-cycle senators that he would not be putting forward an agenda outlining the priorities for his conference should Senate Republicans regain a majority in 2022. When asked by CNN last week what the GOP agenda would be in a potential majority, McConnell responded, “That is a very good question and I’ll let you know when we take it back.” He went on, “This midterm election will be a report card on the performance of this entire Democratic government, the president, the House, and the Senate.”
In other words, McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it.

We know what the Turtle is going to do. We always know. That is why it is important to vote for a Republican in the primary who is on record stating he/she will not vote for the current Senate Leadership, and especially not Turtle. We won’t have enough votes in 2022 to oust the GOPe leadership in the Senate, but we have to begin creating the numbers to make a real go at change in 2024. That change starts in 2022 with adding the right kinds of Senators. Each journey begins with the first step.
While it’s not likely to get passed, having a list of key items to push would keep the Democrats off balance and set the stage for 2024. If the GOP sits back in the interim, the media will write the narrative. And they will blame the GOP for making things worse.
Past history gives overwhelming evidence.
Can he not even draw up a 10 point plan on what they would do?
Good grief get rid of this guy.
“I’m OK with a Rat Senate. It may be better.”
You like all the radical left Judges Biden is appointing to life terms?

I do better with written words, due to hearing impaiment form 2 Meniere’s attacks.
I want to see Graham back at Judiciary. Then we’ll finally get to the bottom of the Balsey Ford deal.
Pray God Almighty that every RINO who must face a primary this year is sent packing and replaced with a constitutional patriot. That is the only way things will change, and if the actions of the RINO traitors in 2020 are not enough to oust them, then we are doomed.
VOTE IN EVERY REPUBLICAN....and VOTE OUT EVERY DEMOCRAT!!
We NEED HUGE MAJORITIES, and when some of them start RINO-ING, we can primary them out! geesh....
The major thing the Senate might help on, imo, is with the USSC picks and to totally stop the idea of packing the court. Only other thing I think it would help with is stopping them from getting rid of the filibuster and having 1-party rule.
Sounds like Bush era “strategery”...
GOP hoping voter disgust with the rats will carry them to victory without having to actually commit to doing the voters’ will.
As usual
“Pols, especially Repubs “point with pride and view with alarm”. That is pretty much their playbook. “
I expect little difference from the GOP in the House. I very much remember the earmarks of Speaker Hastert, the timidness of Speaker Boehner, and the treachery of Speaker Ryan. Prospective Speaker McCarthy was allied with Boehner and Ryan. Why would things change under McCarthy as leader of the majority in the House?
Republicans are not ideological warriors. They are administrators, not fighters. Most are in politics to line their pockets. To their credit, the Democrats are passionate about their collectivist governing philosophy and fight for it with a vengeance whether in the majority or the minority.
So many Freepers believe a Republican majority in Congress will save the Republic. Yet McConnell is essentially telling us to expect business as usual. He and his fellow GOP Senators plan to go back to serving the big donors and being part of the Washington insider social club. They are elitists who will do nothing to put their personal wealth and status at risk for the voter base. If enabling the Democrat agenda allows them to preserve the status quo that is what they will do, while lying and giving lip service to conservative principles. Democrats want a communist dictatorship. Republicans want money and status for themselves. No political party today stands for limited government and individual freedom.
True.
But shouldn’t the GOP have a plan to ROLL BACK some of the stuff they never should have let the Democrats do in the first place?
“McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it.”
That’s fine if it’s just an election strategy. If you can get people to the polls solely based on a “the other guy stinks” motivation, then why not? Any agenda you do put forward is going to turn off some voters, while no agenda leaves it as a contest of sentiment, and sentiment won’t favor the Dems right now.
My suggestion is that President Trump should only endorse Senate candidates who pledge to not support McConnell for reelection as majority leader. Republicans who refuse to caucus with the rest of the Republicans can easily prevent the GOP from having a Senate majority. That is a powerful threat and they should use it. It’s not true that we need a majority of Senate Republicans in order to dump McConnell as leader. We only need a few willing to withhold their caucus membership until the remaining GOP senators will back an alternative. At least, that is my understanding of how it works.
I’d be totally ok with em undoing some things.
They could also protect the borders and eject the illegals. I’d be ok with them doing that.
McConnell definitely has to go.
Unless we elect different Republicans, nothing will change.
Most of the GOP Senators are Assistant Democrats.
