The Soviets took casualties equivalent to D-Day every day of the war. Not to mention NKVD executions of “deserters, etc…) that equaled our losses in Vietnam in 1941 alone. They may not be that tough today, but even 10% of that is formidable.

No, I made it perfectly clear, this is NOT our concern. You can try and twist this into something else but I don’t blame the Russians a damned bit just as I would expect our leadership to respond to foreign mobilization in Mexico or Canada as Russia seems to be doing in Ukraine.
Stalin. That is most certainly true. And the memory of it is burned into the psyche of every person of Ukrainian extraction I've ever known. Being partly Irish, I can relate it to how some view 800 years of Norman English domination of their neighbor.
But the point I think you made in sarcasm is accurate, i.e., what the destruction of the Kulaks and so many others shows about the importance of the Ukraine to Russian national interests. Question is whether potentially going to war over it is in our national interest or just in the financial interests of the Biden family and others?
