Russians killing Ukrainians, is my point.

Putin may feel a military adventure will boost his popularity.

For my part, I can't see the Russian people itching for a war, especially now that there's some measure of public opinion in the country, unlike in Soviet times.

I think it could very well result in Putin’s downfall. I don’t think he’s nearly as popular in Russia as people think.

I pity the Ukrainians, but this is not our fight. The US has no treaty obligation to defend Ukraine and the country is of no critical strategic or economic importance to the US. To risk war with Russia over the Ukraine would be lunacy. It is ironic that the left wing of the Democratic Party who always billed themselves as anti war has become so jingoistic. George McGovern is rolling in his grave.

Exactly what I’m thinking. Half of Ukraine (the eastern half) is Russian.

If there is a war there it will be like the American civil war.

Putin should tell Puppet Biden that he will send arms to American militias if the Biden regime insist on making trouble in Ukraine. Tit for Tat.

It should be a Velvet Divorce, as happened in Czechoslovakia.

“....The US has no treaty obligation to defend Ukraine ....”

Not so sure about that?

We and the UK gave Ukraine guarantees of sovereignty to encourage them to give up the nuclear weapons they inherited from the fall of the USSR. A foolish thing for all parties to do ! How binding this is to us & the UK? I don't know. I knew back then when I read about Ukraine's actions and the USA & UK "guarantees". That it was nothing more then one of those common diplomatic "jokes' that the international community sets such great store in. I knew then that Ukraine's days of independence were likely numbered. I thought 'How can we guarantee that?'. "Perfidious Albion" and "Son-of-Perfidous Albion" are just waving paper around ! If if the nuclear weapons were "unusable" then (due to safety devices, no launch codes, etc) over time those could have been overcome. With proper security, etc. an attacker would never actually know if they were live or not. Even if they were to be used as dirty bomb material it would be one more deterrent that a Russian attack planner would have to factor in. It didn't happen so its moot!

It took the Russians about 6 weeks to pacify Grozny Chechnya when it had a population of 400,000 and just a few thousand fighters

Chechnya was full of crazy Islamic fundamentalists and suicide bombers. How many suicide bombers does the Christian Ukraine have?
You are not comparing like to like.

Biden is not even capable of “making trouble” for Putin in the Ukraine. Putin has the troops in place. Putin has the swagger. And Putin won that very tough war in Chechnya too.

Actually Putin is much more popular in Russia than Dementia Joe is in America. A Ukraine invasion in the face of a weak, ineffective Biden, will make Putin even more popular at home.

Not to beat a dead horse with the WWII analogies, but Hitler's popularity took a big jump up when he was able to take half of Europe without firing a shot. And I think it will be the same for Putin if he can saber-rattle his way toward taking Ukraine, sparing the Russian population the very undesirable option of war, which I can't see that anybody really wants.

Stealing Crimea is wildly popular in Russia. On the other hand, few Russians care about the Donbas area. It’s a backwater and no amount of gaslighting is going to get most Russians to care for a war with Ukraine over it.

It was a fluke that Crimea even belonged to Ukraine in the first place, when it had never been a part of Ukraine, when in 1954, Khrushchev “gave” it to the Ukrainian SSR.

I have pondered just what/how the BIDEN FAMILY CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE might factor into this? Anyone seen anything? Lots of possibilities. Inside deals, blackmail. Will it ever be revealed? Do we need to task John Durham to get to the. Barry Obottom of this? Stay tuned.

The Ukrainians have to be willing to cede territory and fall back to the urban centers and fight there the way the Chechens did in Grozny. That takes a level of disciple to accept that kind of damage to inflict high losses on the invader. Can they do that? I think they might. What other choice do they have?

Then what’s the point of putting some 10,000 20th Guards Army forces in and around Stolin, Belarus?

Army of Observation. It's done to tie down Ukrainian forces away from the battle. I understand the Russians are moving LST's down from the Baltic. So they want Ukraine to defend their Black Sea coastline as well.
