I’ve thought that was going to be the scenario all along.

The only question is what role countries like North Korea and Iran will play.

With respect to Ukraine, Putin has allowed NATO time to stall and play games with him. As a result, his incursion into Ukraine might be tougher more costly than it would had he gone in sooner.

The only logical reason for the delay is Putin knows that after the Olympics he and Xi will be doing a tag team match against the west. But the delay benefits the west as it has enabled it to better prepare for any confrontations.

All one has to do is see what Republicans in Congress are lobbying to have tariffs against China eliminated.

Those are the chosen ones willing to come forward.

There is a portion of the list of traitors. Everyone of them fervently acting against the interests of the American people and did their level best to obstruct President Trump.

Those corrupt POSs are just part of the hand that President Trump was dealt in 2017.

“Just heard from my Co-Worker in Ukraine, China as Russia to hold off invasion of Ukraine until after Winter Olympics.
Looks like they will make the move at the same time.”

Makes sense.

Well okay. When they actually have the ships ready and start loading them. A couple of years down the line. And then getting them across the strait. Still isn’t any walk in the park.

Secretly loading two million troops? And all their gear.

The China worship on the FR is pathetic.

“I’d say that they’re bold enough to do it during the Olympics. Countries won’t be able to do anything. China will have thousands of hostages.”

Nah, China is not that stupid. It craves respect on the world stage, and holding a bunch of foreign hostages, who went to China in good faith, would be a TERRIBLE idea.

Makes sense to me too...while the rest of the world is fighting the new virus brought home from China by the Olympic goers.

I wrongly thought we had a mutual military assistance pact with China but apparently it was dropped in 1979. A Carter accomplishment?

What arrogant and asinine comment about China worship.

China wouldn’t need 2,000,000 troops. Talk about worship

They probably wouldn’t need many, at all.

Taiwan has F16s. China has the ripped off version of the F35. They have tanks and armor. An aircraft carrier.

They wouldn’t need what you say. Not by a long shot.

“Seriously, if Russia invades Ukraine then China would encounter no opposition at all from the West if they invade the Russian Far East. And they know the West won’t give one single damn about the Russians suddenly having to scramble to cover their butts against the Chinese. It’s also a very Sun Tzu kind of thing to do and Xi is a fan of Sun Tzu.”

It’s an interesting idea. Kind of makes sense, in a Risk (the board game) sort of way.

Is it better to be feared or respected? In China’s case, I think it’s feared.

My 2cents

No I’m not. Not by a long shot.

But I know China won’t need 2,000,000 troops to take Taiwan.

Less than 200,000 troops went into Iraq in 2003.

As the US did, control the airspace. Control everything.

Since you seem to be the expert on all things, war, can Taiwan’s Air Force take on the Chinese AF?

Well okay. When they actually have the ships ready and start loading them.

They don't need to land all 2 million troops at once. During the amphibious landings of WWII and later, what was needed was enough advance troops to create a fortified beachhead, airborne troops landing behind enemy lines to disrupt the defense, a feint or two along other coastal sites to pin down defensive formations, and then seize one port city. The millions follow along once that happens.

Does Taiwan have the military capacity to crush a fortified beachhead and retake a port city as they are being pummeled by air and sea? Do they have naval assets necessary to disrupt the supply of Chinese troops headed inbound once the beachhead is established?

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a challenge for the Chinese. I am saying that have grave doubts about the ability of the Taiwanese to mount an effective defense, particularly if the US decides to sit on the sidelines.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

“When China starts amassing sea lift capacity and loading ships that’ll be the time to worry.”

Well, start worrying then. They’ve been pulling car carriers and cargo ships off of AIS and global navigation reporting since October. They’ve gone dark.

Taiwan beaches are pretty difficult. And they are well prepared. People seem to think that China can just easily walk into Taiwan. It is a far far more difficult proposition than most seem to think. And few people seem to factor in the poor standards of the PLA’s training and readiness. And it’s entirely corrupt officer crops who actually buy their positions in cash from the CCP. More time is spent in political indoctrination than practicing assaulting beaches. And the beaches the PLA does use are entirely different from the swamp, marshy beaches of Taiwan with the gasoline delivery pipes all ready to go.

And then if China goes into Taiwan what does India do? That may be the most important question.
