JD Rucker, TLD: Miles of Truckers: Canadian “Freedom Convoy” Tries to Save Our Supply Chain From Medical-Tyranny-Induced Collapse
Video of the Day:
"Convoy" [1978]
For fun, make these #1 on iTunes:
AppleMusic: The Best Of C.W. McCall, "Convoy" [1978]
iTunes: Convoy (Uncut) [1978]
Breaker Breaker, one-nine! How ‘bout ya, front door? Any word on that smokey by mile marker 20?
How’s the truck convoy going in Canada and is there one on tap for the US?
Let them truckers roll, 10-4!
I enjoyed those days!
My CB handle was “The Midnight Rider”
basically he was an ad exec pretending to be a fictional character who was pretending to be a singer. and it worked.
fixed typo
Thank you for fixing the link, and fyi the song 1975 ...the movie 1978.
CBer 1: Breaker 1-9. How about a 10-36?(what time is it?)
CBer 2: Buddy I ain’t gonna give you a 10-36. ‘Cause then we are going ratchet jaw (chat) and you are gonna ask my handle (name) and my Home 20 (place I live). Then you will find out I have an 18 year old daughter and you are gonna ask if you can date her and eventually she will say you want to wed her.
But Buddy, I ain’t never gonna let my daughter marry a man who can’t afford a watch!
CBer 1: Come back
CBer 2: off air
During the 1970s (before "Convoy"), Fries did an ad campaigns for bread companies, which are considered by some to be the greatest series of TV commercials in history.
Here are a few of them. Pure Americana.
Old Home Bread - Flirting with Mabel
Old Home Bread - Mabel and her Mom get taken to John Wayne movie
Here's a few he did for Kern's Bread, still featuring Mabel and Sloan the Dog.
All that information best remain classified
Speaking of Classified, during the late 70’s and early 80’s, McCall’s Classified was a staple on our local radio station’s swap and shop. Good song.

These ads ran heavily in the Midwest. I can still recite some of them from memory too many years later.
“And a bone for Sloan.”
Yup, and even more bizarre is that the character/band CW McCall (Chip Davis and Jackson Berkey) morphed into Mannheim Steamroller, the immensely popular instrumental ensemble that was Rush Limbaugh’s favorite. I think I have five of their vinyl albums. Yes, vinyl — I am old.
It was the dark of the moon on the fifth of June, and a Kenworth pullin’ logs; A cab-over “Pete” with a refer box, and a “Jimmy” haulin’ hawgs!
Brand new version just for this event. :)

Yep. He worked with Chip Davis of Mannheim Steamroller fame. Bill Fries (CW McCall) did really well with his Old Home commercials in the Midwest. Rush played MS music on his show at Christmas time.
Ginger Congo (wife) was telling me that Chip Davis of the Mannheim Steamrollers was C W McCall, but after looking it up I found out that Chip Davis collaborated with Bill Fries on the song but Bill Fries sang Convoy.
